Kuboyasu had trouble sleeping that night. The bed was one of the most comfortable he's ever slept in and no noise or light was boring through the walls. But there was something on his mind, that wouldn't let him fall asleep.
He promised himself he'll confess his feelings to Kaidou on this trip. He's already wasted one chance he had. After that he was afraid that no other opportunity will come.
That night he realized that festival is the perfect event for confessing feelings. With that thought he smiled to himself and turned on his side.
I won't ruin the moment this time. It'll be perfect.
His heart rate quickened when he heard a loud noise coming from outside. He recognized that sound. A human body hitting the ground.
Someone was at Mrs Aoki's garden.
He quickly sat up and crawled out of the bed. He stood by the window and pulled up the blinds. He gave a quick look at Kaidou, but luckily his best friend was sleeping deep, so a little bit of light shouldn't wake him up.
Aren breathed out and stared at the garden for a minute, but he couldn't see anyone. There weren't many lights, so it was hard to see in general, but even when his eyes got used to the darkness, he still couldn't spot any human being, or movement.
It wasn't a good sign. Either he was getting crazy or there was someone spying on them. He obviously wasn't dumb enough to just go out and look for a potentially dangerous person. He sat there for another fifteen minutes, but when nothing changed, he decided to go to bed.
Kuboyasu felt something strange it his stomach. That feeling was caused by an unpleasant thought. It wasn't the first time he felt like someone strange was there. When he was with Shun on the roof, he was almost sure that somebody was looking at them, but he didn't think about it much. Now he was too anxious to move.
A stranger, god knows who, might possibly want to hurt them. Hurt Kaidou. Aren couldn't imagine the situation in which his best friend is in danger.
All he wanted was to have a nice trip with friends. I'm not going to let anyone ruin his dream.
Kuboyasu wasn't the only person who suspected to be spied at. A few meters away, in a different room, Kusuo Saiki was sitting by the window and looking for any kind of strange movement.
Good grief, what the hell is going on? This isn't good. Somebody definitely is following us. And now Kuboyasu knows about it as well. Hopefully he won't say anything to his totally platonic best friend, or Nendou.
The worst part is, I have no idea what they want from us. That first guy didn't really say anything. He also wasn't really harmful, but what if he was sent to see how strong I am, so they could prepare. What if they knew I'm not going to hurt him.
I'm no hero. I just want to have calm life. I'm not a savior to anyone.
But if they try to hurt them, those guys won't get away unharmed.
I'll make sure of it.
It seemed like right now there wasn't any potential danger waiting for them, so Saiki went to bed and tried to fall asleep.
Eventually, both Kusuo and Aren spent the night whirling around too anxious about their friends to calm down.
In the morning, Mrs Aoki was already off to work. She left them a note explaining how to use some things, and a small list of tasks, ended with a gracious "please" at the end.
"We live in her house for free after all" Kuboyasu yawned loudly "The least we can do is chores"
"Yeah, sure! No doubt!" By contrast, Kaidou was energized and excited to start the day.
