I winced slightly as I pressed the cold water bottle against my eyes to help reduce the puffiness from crying earlier.
"....And it's been happening every night?" my dad asked, resting his chin in his hands. "Mhm." "Well, that explains your shadows then."
I jumped up in confusion. "What?" We both glanced down at my shadow, noticing the short hair blowing in the wind.
As I processed my dad's words, confusion swirled in my mind, igniting a strange mix of frustration and disbelief.
How could he suddenly see what had been haunting me for so long? My heart raced as I stared at my shadow, its short hair moving in the breeze like some eerie reflection of myself. It felt surreal, like the lines between reality and the phantom world were starting to blur.
"It's weird; it has short hair," my dad added, his voice tinged with curiosity. "But when I asked you the first time, you said you didn't see it??" I replied, feeling a mix of frustration and disbelief. "Yeah, I didn't—I actually didn't notice until we entered the hospital. But that was before your mom and I started seeing creatures close to the description of those 'phantoms' you told me about."
What did this mean for my battles ahead, and would my parents finally understand the extent of what I was facing?
