*IN AIDEN'S POV*
I paced back and forth, feeling like a caged animal ready to pounce. Something had gone horribly wrong out there, and I could sense the tension thickening in the air. It was unsettling, like a storm brewing just out of sight. Someone had gotten hurt, and the gnawing anxiety wrapped around my heart like a vice, tightening with each step I took.
"Ughh!" I let out a frustrated groan, crouching low as if to hide from the weight of what had happened.
Just thinking about the others being in danger made my blood boil. What if those boneheads hurt her? The idea of them even thinking they could touch her ignited a rage within me that was hard to contain. My fists clenched, but I felt a chill down my spine.
I can't let them hurt her. I won't let them hurt her. I almost lost her once, and it was my own fault. I am not about to lose her cause stupid adults want to use us like little test subjects.
I waited on my bed for Alex. It was most likely he would come in to check on us after what happened.
Minutes later the door creaked open and I didn't waste a second. I quickly rush over the the door and grab Alex by his shirt.
"Y'know... I really liked you. You brought me game, face paint, and even hung out with me.." I pinned him to the ground, holding him by his neck. "But if you don't tell me what happened to one of the others it's not going to end well" I could see the panic in his eyes as he tried to rise, but I wasn't letting go. Not until I got some answers. My heart raced; the tension clung to me like a second skin.
My grip tightened as I held him against the floor, my focus unwavering.
"Sh-she's okay! Everyone's okay!"
"Tay or Ash?" My grip on his neck got slightly tighter
"Ashlyn! I'll tell—" He gasped, choking on his words, desperately clawing for air. "—tell you everything, but I need to be able to breathe to do that!"
Reluctantly, I released my hold, though part of me still seethed. As he explained the chaos, my gaze hardened on him, still processing the fact that they had allowed Ashlyn to get hurt.
"Give me your card," I demanded, my voice low and intense, eyes sharp as daggers. I extended my hand, narrowing my gaze. If he refused, I'd make it clear I wasn't above using force to get what I wanted.
"H-hey! I wasn't supposed to tell you kids; if I give you my card, we'll both be in big trouble! Let's be rational!" He stumbled backward, instinctively trying to protect himself. Annoyed but too preoccupied, I barely absorbed his ramblings. Half-listening, my mind drifted back to Ashlyn, a nagging worry gnawing at my insides. I couldn't shake the sight of her—her quiet strength was a beacon for me. Would she be okay?
Finally, I nodded at Alex as he finished his nonsensical chatter. He slinked away, muttering about talking to the others, but it felt achingly hollow knowing Ashlyn got hurt inside of this shitty place.
I lied on my bed with my arm thrown over my forehead.
Man... I hope Ash isn't hurt too badly.
