Then Tyler and the other stepped in the hallway. "Taylor!" "Ty?! What's going on?!" Taylor ran into Tyler, hugging him.I answered, "Something's in the-"

But my words were swallowed by the creature's head poking around the corner, its gaze locking onto us.

"...go-go, go, go!"

We bolted from the room, with Ben and Aiden slamming the door behind us just as the creature lunged forward. The door rattled with fierce scratching from the other side.

Logan's voice trembled, "W-What is that thing?"

Aiden, though clearly unnerved, managed a grim smile.

"According to Tyler, that would be the 'prank' from earlier today."

In the moment, the irony was lost on me; this was anything but funny.

Tyler was practically vibrating with anger.

Aiden glanced around and said, "It's kinda weird that no one's come outside after all the screaming and banging."

He was right. Where was everyone?

The door creaked ominously as it began to open again. Ben threw his weight against it, bracing it shut with grim determination.

Aiden chuckled nervously. "That could've been really bad."
Tyler snapped, "Could've? Stop treating this like a joke! The sky is red, for crying out loud!"

"Whining about it isn't going to help."

"And laughing about it is?!"

I kept my thoughts to myself but mentally noted, *Some people, like Aiden, try to lighten the mood to help us cope. Others, like me, actually find this kind of situation exciting-just not when it's happening to us.*

I turned to Aiden, trying to focus. "How far down is your room?"

"Five rooms down. Why?"
"I have an idea..."

I looked at the creatures advancing toward us, a mix of dread and curiosity swirling within me. What on earth was really happening here?
