Chapter 291: She Made the First Move [Part 6]
"I'm a dying woman, what's there to consider?"
"Well, at least make sure you look your best in your final years. If the one you love returns and sees you looking worn out, how could anything happen between you?" Ye Wenxin couldn't help but bring up that scoundrel again, seeing Lady Yu's stubbornness.
Lady Yu's expression changed slightly. She glanced at the Youth Preserving Elixir and asked, "Do I just eat this directly?"
"Yes, just eat it," Ye Wenxin confirmed, watching as Lady Yu popped the pill into her mouth and moved on. Impressed by her decisiveness, Ye Wenxin felt a wave of exhaustion and headed to the guest room to sleep.
She slept through the entire day, waking only as night fell.
By then, Fatty and the others had arrived at the manor, and Lady Yu had taken them on a tour. Yet Ye Wenxin remained in bed, hearing the commotion outside.
"Madam, it's been a whole day, and Big Sis hasn't woken up."
"Yeah, she's never slept this long before, even after making a lot of elixirs. Could something be wrong?"
Their worried voices roused Ye Wenxin, but she felt fine-just exhausted from the all-night alchemy session.
"No worries, I've had the doctor check. She'll be fine by tomorrow. If you're really concerned, spread the word about her elixirs to boost her reputation," Lady Yu reassured them, sending them away with a few words.
Ye Wenxin had planned to pretend to be ill, teaching them not to rely on her too much, but Lady Yu's intervention left her without the chance. She lay back down but soon heard the door creak open.
Instinctively, Ye Wenxin shut her eyes, feigning sleep. Lady Yu moved quietly, setting down food and approaching Ye Wenxin's bedside.
Sitting there, Lady Yu seemed to be watching her. Ye Wenxin's skin prickled, wishing Lady Yu would leave. But Lady Yu, as if mesmerized, stayed silently by her side.
Just as Ye Wenxin wondered how long this awkwardness would last, Qiao Ni's voice rang from outside, startling Lady Yu. In a fluster, she moved around the room before climbing into bed with Ye Wenxin, seeking cover.
Qiao Ni entered, carrying more food.
"Oh, Mom's already been here," she grumbled, noticing the extra plate and setting hers down. Unlike Lady Yu's subtlety, Qiao Ni boldly kissed Ye Wenxin's cheek. Ye Wenxin was speechless but had to keep up the facade of sleep.
If she woke now, things would be awkward with both Lady Yu and Qiao Ni. Ye Wenxin inwardly groaned, regretting her feigned slumber leading to this predicament.
"Wow, Sis is sleeping so soundly. Should I join her?" Bored, Qiao Ni teased, grinning devilishly at the unresponsive Ye Wenxin.
Ye Wenxin felt Lady Yu tense beside her, fearing discovery by Qiao Ni. But it seemed inevitable.
Deciding, Ye Wenxin opened her eyes and playfully pressed Qiao Ni's head down.
"Sis, you're awake!" Qiao Ni beamed, moving in for a hug. Ye Wenxin couldn't avoid it, wary of revealing Lady Yu's presence, and reluctantly accepted.
