Chapter 881: Jealousy of the Ghost Mother
Ye Wenxin didn't return right away. Instead, she took her time praising each of the furballs before sending them out again to see if they could gather more valuable information.
The surroundings fell silent once more. Ye Wenxin retrieved the Umbrella Sword from her storage pouch and carefully wiped it clean.
"Flattering me won't work!" Ghost Mother reappeared, her tone as haughty as ever. Her eyes had returned to a deep green, as if she had no intention of concealing her true identity.
"Who said I was flattering you? Since you're here, I wanted to ask how Ran'er is doing lately," Ye Wenxin replied, blinking innocently. She enjoyed seeing Ghost Mother frustrated yet unable to defeat her.
"She hasn't done anything, just quietly ruling her Feng Yue Palace. I got bored and switched places with Sword Ghost!" Ghost Mother grumbled, recalling the dullness of her time with Liu Churan.
She had hoped for excitement with Ye Wenxin, only to find her life overtaken by eight furballs. Those little creatures, once mere sources of cuteness, had become indispensable to Ye Wenxin's life.
Ye Wenxin was puzzled, feeling that Ghost Mother was describing someone other than Liu Churan.
"Are you kidding? Ran'er is a classic villainess... No, you wouldn't understand. Anyway, if she's doing nothing, maybe she's hiding something from you and plotting something big," Ye Wenxin speculated. Since parting ways in the Bai Yu Dynasty, she had expected Liu Churan to stir up trouble, especially against Long Qingyue.
But now, Liu Churan was content as a palace master, which seemed impossible.
Ye Wenxin felt a growing unease, more so at the thought of a compliant Liu Churan. Ghost Mother didn't seem to be lying to stay with Ye Wenxin, either.
So, there was only one possible explanation.
"Ghostie, has Ran'er seen anyone recently?" Ye Wenxin thought of the Peach Blossom Immortal. By now, the Immortal should have reached the Beast Garden, even if crawling.
If not, something must have delayed him.
"I think she did meet someone, but she used some spell to seal my senses, so I don't know exactly," Ghost Mother admitted, recalling Liu Churan's sneaky actions on a certain day.
Ye Wenxin inhaled sharply, feeling uneasy.
"Has she mentioned anything about Gu Qingcheng lately?" Ye Wenxin pressed on. Ghost Mother pondered, "Now that you mention it, since killing the Red Yan King, she hasn't spoken of Gu Qingcheng. I asked if she was over him, and she smiled brightly."
Ghost Mother mimicked Liu Churan's relaxed, sweet smile, making Ye Wenxin's face darken. If Ghost Mother's expression was accurate, Liu Churan might have been charmed, feeling false affection for the Peach Blossom Immortal.
"Hmph, you look troubled. When Ran'er liked you, you ran away. Now that she's moved on, you regret it?" Ghost Mother spun mid-air, pressing against Ye Wenxin's back.
Ye Wenxin caught her roaming hand, continuing, "Not at all. The Peach Blossom Immortal isn't right for Ran'er. Swap back with Sword Ghost; I need to know what's happening there."
