Chapter 441: First Love
Ye Wenxin remained unfazed, continuing to apply the ointment, while Jiunan Shitai grew increasingly uncomfortable. She resorted to chanting sutras to quell the strange sensations, but it was futile. Observing her struggle, Ye Wenxin decided to make small talk to ease the atmosphere.
"What scriptures have you been reading lately, Shitai?"
"Hmm?"
"What caused these injuries?"
"Ah."
Jiunan Shitai felt as if millions of ants were crawling over her skin, the sensation nearly unbearable. The ointment needed half an hour to take effect before it could be wiped off, making the process excruciating.
After a while, Jiunan Shitai became numb from the pain, unable to stand but unwilling to ask Ye Wenxin for help.
Ye Wenxin watched Jiunan Shitai's struggle, secretly amused. She had intentionally increased the amount of mint in the mixture. Partly to see Jiunan Shitai's reaction, and partly because mint accelerated healing. She mentally calculated how long Jiunan Shitai would last, but was surprised to see her composed, defying Ye Wenxin's expectations.
The half-hour passed swiftly, and Jiunan Shitai finally looked better, her cheeks flushed with health. She nodded at Ye Wenxin. "Thank you, Benefactor Wenxin, for your help. Without you, I wouldn't know what to do."
Ye Wenxin exchanged pleasantries with Jiunan Shitai, still pondering whether her formula had a problem. The pain should have been unbearable, yet Jiunan Shitai endured it with ease.
"As long as it works."
"What herbs did you use? The effects are remarkable," Jiunan Shitai asked curiously, smiling. Ye Wenxin listed the herbs.
"It's my first time hearing of such a wondrous formula."
"Heh, it's an old family recipe," Ye Wenxin replied, summarizing her learning in one sentence. She recalled Jiunan Shitai's connection to the Ye family village.
"If they had descendants, they'd be about your age, Benefactor Wenxin." As expected, Jiunan Shitai brought up the Ye family village again. Ye Wenxin smiled, unsure if Jiunan Shitai was hinting at something or if she had known the Ye family before Ye Wenxin destroyed the village.
Regardless, Ye Wenxin was only a teenager during the massacre, long before the birth of her current persona, making it impossible for her to know what happened afterward.
"Shitai, you often mention the village. Do you have feelings for the Ye family village?" Ye Wenxin probed.
The sun was setting, casting an eerie glow in the forest, making it more dangerous. The twilight bathed Jiunan Shitai in an ethereal light, enhancing her beauty. Jiunan Shitai smiled softly. "I wasn't a nun back then, but I was in dire straits. Had those kind people not sheltered me for a few days while I healed, I wouldn't have known what to do."
Jiunan Shitai's expression was nostalgic, but her words painted a picture that clashed with Ye Wenxin's memory of the Ye family village.
Those people were selfish, calculating once they learned of Ye Wenxin's icy constitution, leading her down a dark path. Yet, because of that path, Ye Wenxin learned the Flower Burial technique and met Long Qingyue. Ye Wenxin sighed inwardly, listening as Jiunan Shitai reminisced about the village.
