Chapter 251: The Heart of Aspiring for the Moon
Ye Wenxin couldn't help but smile at Qiao Ni's boldness, remarking, "I bet your mother didn't teach you that trick."
Qiao Ni grinned triumphantly, as Ye Wenxin stood still, watching her attempt another kiss. Ye Wenxin gently pushed her away, saying, "You're really bold for your age!"
Qiao Ni retorted, "You're only fourteen! How can you call me bold when you're just a bit taller?"
Ye Wenxin felt a bit rattled but couldn't reveal her true age. Seeing Ye Wenxin standing defenseless, Qiao Ni leaped at her like a playful wolf.
Ye Wenxin sidestepped lightly, causing the kiss to land on her cheek instead. Rolling her eyes, she watched as Qiao Ni ran off gleefully.
"Why are you running? I'm not going to hit you," Ye Wenxin called after her, feeling like the victim despite Qiao Ni's reaction.
Just then, a familiar gaze settled on her, sending a chill down her spine. Before she could turn, she heard a familiar voice.
"Who do you plan to hit, Miss Wenxin?" Lady Yu's voice chimed in, sweet yet sending shivers down Ye Wenxin's spine.
For reasons unknown, Ye Wenxin always felt like the guilty party in Lady Yu's presence, despite having done nothing wrong.
"No one. I was just lamenting the weather. Look, the clouds are covering the moon—such a pity," Ye Wenxin pointed out. The cloudy night indeed obscured the sky.
Lady Yu glanced up, "Oh, so you plan to hit the sky?"
"Heh, the sky's too high for me to reach," Ye Wenxin replied modestly, though she mused that perhaps one day, if she ascended, she might reach beyond the sky.
In a way, she felt she could achieve such a goal.
Lady Yu chuckled, a hint of sarcasm in her voice, "Since you know the sky is unreachable, Miss Wenxin, stick to what you're good at and stop dreaming."
Her words were blunt. By tomorrow, they would reach Green Island Manor, marking the end of Ye Wenxin's time with Lady Yu. Lady Yu watched her closely, fearing Ye Wenxin would take advantage of Qiao Ni's innocence.
Earlier, she had seen Qiao Ni embracing Ye Wenxin. Upon arrival, she found only Ye Wenxin, aware that Qiao Ni had hidden.
"Of course, I'm grounded and practical. Daydreaming isn't my style," Ye Wenxin replied with a smile, unwilling to form ties with Green Island Manor through such means.
Turning to leave and check on Huang Hanyan's progress, Lady Yu spoke again, "Would you mind escorting me back?"
"Such an honor should go to the seniors. I dare not disturb the lady by aspiring for the moon," Ye Wenxin declined, sensing something amiss in Lady Yu's invitation.
Could it be that Lady Yu, wanting Qiao Ni to see her true colors, planned to tempt her?
The thought unnerved Ye Wenxin. Tonight was her night, but it shouldn't become Lady Yu's plan. As she hesitated, Lady Yu grasped her sleeve.
