Chapter 911: The Broken Girl
"Miss Han, take this," Ye Wenxin offered, placing a blanket on a nearby branch when Han Shanshui showed no intention of accepting it. "If you get cold, just use it," Ye Wenxin added before climbing back onto the white furball's back. The furball wrapped its tail around her protectively as they both drifted back into sleep.
The night passed quietly, but Ye Wenxin awoke feeling overheated due to the drastic temperature difference in the Shengshi Dynasty's forest. As she rose, she saw Fei Chai practicing his morning exercises in the distance.
Han Shanshui stood nearby, observing Fei Chai's movements with no exchange between the two. Ye Wenxin patted the white furball, which shrank to a rideable size, and headed over.
"Good morning, Miss Ye," Fei Chai greeted with a smile when he noticed her approach.
Ye Wenxin nodded slightly, seeing Han Shanshui's icy gaze on her. Though no cold aura surrounded her today, her eyes remained just as frosty.
"Why don't you try?" Han Shanshui suddenly suggested, catching both Ye Wenxin and Fei Chai by surprise. Fei Chai, though puzzled, turned to Ye Wenxin, "Miss Ye, shall we spar?"
Ye Wenxin hesitated. Although a member of Cangyu Sect, she hadn't learned much of their techniques. Jin Xiaoqin always handed her books on escape tactics, skewing her training.
But Han Shanshui wasn't easily deceived. After considering, Ye Wenxin agreed, positioning herself opposite Fei Chai. His smile faded, replaced by a fierce intensity.
Ye Wenxin wasn't surprised. She took a deep breath, channeling her qi into her palms.
"Forgive me, Miss Ye!" Fei Chai announced as he launched a hook punch. Ye Wenxin easily sidestepped it, anticipating his move.
Han Shanshui was scrutinizing her, so feigning weakness would only raise suspicion. Yet, Ye Wenxin's mind lacked martial techniques to counter with. Dodging again, she pondered her strategy.
"Sister, dodging won't solve everything," the storyteller noted, concerned as he watched with the Ghost Mother. As a Cangyu Sect storyteller, he was understandably anxious seeing Ye Wenxin constantly evading.
"Don't worry, I have a plan," Ye Wenxin assured confidently, having memorized much of Fei Chai's fighting pattern. When his fist swung again, she countered with a punch to his abdomen.
Fei Chai was stunned, thinking Ye Wenxin's success was pure luck. However, seeing her hit the mark, Ye Wenxin smiled slightly. Not waiting for him to attack again, she used his own technique.
Recognizing his moves, Fei Chai scrambled to defend himself, but Ye Wenxin's advantage quickly toppled him to the ground, disbelief etched on his face.
Yet, Ye Wenxin felt no joy. It was akin to bullying a novice. Despite her youthful appearance, she was experienced.
"Master Fei, thank you for the match."
"Not at all, Miss Ye. You're truly skilled. It took me three years to master this technique, and you picked it up in moments," Fei Chai replied, bitterly acknowledging her prowess.
Normally, one close to the heroine wouldn't be so easily outclassed. Was Fei Chai merely a minor character? Or perhaps Han Shanshui was destined to walk a solitary path?
