Chapter 771: A Hug, Please
With those words, Lan Lan left the room, and Ye Wenxin locked the door behind her. Liuli then jumped down with Xuan Luofei in her arms.
"It's been a while, Pearl, and you're still so popular," Xuan Luofei, now awake, said with a lighthearted tone. Though her eyes lacked focus, her demeanor more than compensated for any shortcomings. She seemed genuinely happy to see Ye Wenxin again.
"You always tease me, Senior Sister Xuan. I'm just on a training journey and happened to be in the Baiyu Dynasty. How did you end up in such a situation?" Ye Wenxin skipped pleasantries and directly addressed her curiosity about encountering Xuan Luofei here.
Xuan Luofei felt her way to the edge of the bed and sat down before responding.
"Didn't I mention the Spirit Beast Tournament to you before?"
Ye Wenxin paused. If Xuan Luofei hadn't mentioned the Spirit Beast Tournament, she would've completely forgotten their earlier agreement. Seeing Xuan Luofei here, Ye Wenxin assumed she had followed her to the Baiyu Dynasty after learning of her presence.
"Did you come to invite me, Senior Sister?"
"Hardly. I arrived before you, intending to find a new spirit beast, but ended up trapped. If you hadn't heard my music, I might not have lasted much longer," Xuan Luofei explained her predicament, her expression tinged with helplessness.
Previously, Ye Wenxin had felt guilty for having eaten Xuan Luofei's spirit beast, the golden boar. Hearing that Xuan Luofei wasn't mourning her loss but rather seeking a new companion was surprising.
"You're letting go of Pearl? Looking for a new spirit beast?"
"How could I let go? I vowed never to have another spirit beast because of my blindness. But my master insists that as the senior sister of the Beast Garden, I must have one," Xuan Luofei replied bitterly. Despite her affection for the golden boar, real life seldom meets idealistic dreams.
Resigned to her fate, Xuan Luofei set out alone upon hearing rumors of a mysterious spirit beast in the Baiyu Dynasty. Yet, the journey left her vulnerable. Without sight, many tasks were unmanageable. However, her past experiences prevented her from appearing too helpless.
After a moment of silence, Ye Wenxin asked, "What are your plans now, Senior Sister?"
"I plan to rest for a few days before continuing my search for a spirit beast," Xuan Luofei replied after some thought, groping around for something. Liuli, who had been quietly observing, quickly handed Xuan Luofei a cup, for which she thanked Liuli.
"Thank you, Liuli."
"You're welcome," Liuli replied politely, then transformed back into the eight furballs, allowing Ye Wenxin and Xuan Luofei to converse freely.
Xuan Luofei took another sip of water, waiting for Ye Wenxin to ask more questions.
"Finished your water? Let me refill it," Ye Wenxin offered, pouring more tea for Xuan Luofei. This time, Xuan Luofei only drank a few sips before waving her hands in the air, seemingly signaling something.
"What's wrong, Senior Sister Xuan?" Ye Wenxin asked, puzzled by the gesture. Xuan Luofei replied, "Pearl, it's been so long. Let me give you a hug."
With that, she stood and tried to embrace Ye Wenxin. Unfortunately, without sight, she moved in the opposite direction. Amused, Ye Wenxin guided her hands and gave her a gentle hug.
"You're really Pearl."
"That's enough, Senior Sister. I'm not a pig," Ye Wenxin replied, exasperated but unable to be cross with the kind-hearted senior sister of the Beast Garden.
