I blink. Oh, we're back here again against the rock. I grunt, and stretch, lifting my arms up, my bones cracking a bit. I feel Eric gran my hand, and he looked me dead in the eye
"Jeez Circe you really do need therapy- once this is all over I am scheduling a therapy session for you, no objections."
I didn't even try to deny it, but looked him in the eye as well, not noticing his red cheeks
"Fine, but you are coming with me."
"But wh-"
"You know why"
"Fine"
After, we just sat there for a few minutes, looking up. The sky had darkened into nighttime, and stars littered the sky, with a few clouds. It was a crescent moon, beautiful. It was kind of chilly, and I heard Eric shiver. I was probably cold too ,but I have gotten so used to it due to training, I can't feel it. We needed to find somewhere to rest before we both froze to death. I looked around, and due to my eyesight being better than the average persons, I could see the outline of trees, meaning a forest, in the distance.
"Come on Eric, gotta get out of here before either Fin and his gang find us, or we freeze, because we both know those are things that are bound to happen."
He nodded, and I grabbed his hand, helping him up, and we began to walk towards the trees. I was not running again. I'd done that way too much in the past few days. I just want to enjoy the feeling of not feeling in danger while it lasts, because I know that tomorrow, and Eric knows it as well, that we will be fighting for our lives once again. How did we know that? Because there were people hidden quite well who were following us, and would likely attack the moment we fell asleep later on. Which is why we would have to kill them soon. After that we'd have to fight again tomorrow, and probably the day after. Not like we could do a joint group operation, not after Tara tried to get me killed. Wonder if "Father" will ask me to kill her...that'd be sad...I think, but well, orders will be orders, but I will just wait. Maybe... it won't happen. We walked under the night sky, peacefully, and arrived at the forest. The lush, green leaves hid the sky from us, and soon, we heard a branch snap. Me and Eric stood, back to back, moving in a circle. I handed him gunpowder and a lighter, and watched as he quickly put it into a small plastic ball with a string, lit it and threw it into the forest. There was a loud BOOM, and a body flew past us. This was one thing I couldn't feel emotion for, as well as Eric. Having killed people for more than 3 years, we'd gotten used to it. I grabbed a knife, placing it between my fingers, and threw it to a spot in a tree, and raised another, which deflected a bullet. Another person in black fell from the tree, the knife having hit them in the head. Bullseye. Me and Eric continued this, in a rush of blood and darkness, a few grunts as well. We weren't saddened, nor happy about it. It was nice to not have to force myself to smile while I killed them. There were a few plants lit on fire, and soon the entire area was lit on fire. That's the price of bombs. It was a bright, orange haze. We watched as the bodies of the dead burned, leaving a bad smell in the air. Me and Eric walked away, leaving the burning woods behind us. We may have just started a massive forest fire, but oh well. We'd fine somewhere else to sleep. Me and Eric had swiped some cloths and backpacks off the bodies before they burned, likely what the assassins would have used to sleep after they killed us. Poor them, they didn't know who they were dealing with. Me and Eric both had our own separate names we were known by in the mafia, me The Blood Stained Cat, and him, The Crazed Bomber, since his signature way of killing people was...well bombing them. Though he may be the lookout, he had his fair share of kills because of how many people were on his partner in crimes back, he couldn't catch a break. His partner in crime is me. Together, somehow we became known across the criminal underworld as The Pair Of Hell. I am not complaining, it rocks now that I really think about it. We got that name because after every murder we commit, we walk out of the burning building unscathed, not one scratch or burn, like demons of hell. Though I didn't believe in any kind of god, it was still cool. I snapped back to reality, and saw we had found another forest somehow. It wasn't connected to the one from before, so it hopefully wouldn't burn down. We found a pair of two pretty decent trees, and each took a blanket, climbing our way into the separate trees, and we both let put a long, exhausted sigh.
"That was so dang tiring"
I groaned, and I head Eric mumble an agreement.
"I know right. Seriously, why is everyone in the dang criminal underworld after you"
He said, and I heard him laugh, and I joined him in laughing.
"Though it is so weird I actually know I feel emotions, laughing is really nice, especially with you Eric"
I hear him stumble, and watch him nearly fall off his tree.
"You ok?"
He caught himself, and hung upside down with his knees wrapped around the tree, being a show off.
"Yep you're fine"
I said, laughing again as I watched him swing himself back up. I put the blanket over myself. It was nice and soft. Wow, those assassins knew comfort. I didn't feel tired, but after ignoring how my body actually felt for the entire time I'd been in the mafia, I knew it was tired. And for some strange reason, I knew I wouldn't have any nightmares tonight. I closed my eyes, and heard Valia whisper in my mind
"Rest, Circe. You're truly awake now"
I knew what she meant. I had shown who I really was to Eric, and finally, I could be a normal person...well, being one of the most skilled assassins in the entire world wasn't exactly normal, but I felt emotions again. I could laugh and smile for real. It wouldn't be big smiles, but it was a start after so many years. I relaxed my muscles, and soon fell asleep, finally not haunted by the nightmares I had for the past 5 years. Yes, I was finally....free.
