I groaned, and slowly opened my eyes, and stretched, my back cracking in way to many ways then a fifteen year olds should be. It does make sense though since a tree trunk isn't exactly the most comfortable place to lay against. Oh well, I'd live. I have slept in a lot worse conditions, like that one time when I had to dig a hole in early spring because I was being hunted by five groups of other assassins. I grunt, and see Eric isn't in the tree he was laying in. Obviously he was above me, I could sense him. I threw a smoke bomb up above me, and heard a grunt and then a series of coughing. I smiled. Slowly, I was gaining emotions once again, and teasing Eric was actually so much fun. I slid to the sides and dramatically did a backflip and landed in the ground. I called out
"Going to go grab some sticks and firewood for a fire and probably a rabbit or two"
After another long series of coughing, I heard him say, through the coughs
"Ok"
I hummed as I walked throughout the forest but stopped myself before I scared all the animals away. I masked my presence so I wouldn't be noticed by any animals at all. I decided I would hunt first, it would make it easier. I slowly moved throughout the trees, deciding to jump through them instead. I peered through the leaves every few jumps, and soon saw a rabbit. I slowly unsheathed a knife, and held it between my pointer and middle finger, narrowing my eyes slightly to see better, and through the knife, hitting the rabbit directly where it's heart would be, making it quick and painless. A little bit of blood poured out, making a mini stream of it. I leapt down, and grabbed the rabbit and knife, cleaning the blood off the knife casually, and as to leave no traces that I hunted here, I made a little hole in the ground, letting the little stream of blood go down, and then I grabbed some leaves, covering the hole and the remaining blood, and made sure to grab leaves that had been covered in mud as well, because it would disguise the scent of blood. I then simply walked away, leaping into the trees again to not leave footprints anywhere. I quickly made a trip back to camp, threw the rabbit in the mini clearing there, to where Eric was crouching, and it hit him in the head, and then I went away again. Eric's face had also been covered in light pink powder from the smoke bomb. I had no regrets in the slightest for doing that to him, so worth it. I had to gather firewood somehow without chopping down a tree, which would be interesting. I decided I'd just cut or maybe use acid to burn off branches, maybe not the acid I feel like I'd burn the entire tree down in the process...
Eventually I was back at the camp or whatever, a little dirty and all but eh, it was fine. I put down the branches around the little rock circle Eric had made. Luckily trees covered the top over us so smoke shouldn't be too easy for people to see. I grabbed two rocks, holding one still and moving the other one down diagonally in a quick way, and soon sparks flew, and with a bright flash, the fire started. I grabbed two extra sticks, which Eric must have grabbed because he had skewered pieces of rabbit meat on them. I roasted them casually, and heard him slowly walk back into the camp, probably from a pond or something, because his hair was wet and his face was no longer pink.
"Breakfast is ready"
I said, and handed him a skewer, and ate mine as well, and we soon finished. I had to put out the fire somehow, but what was the point, we could just burn down another forest, because how could we put it out when we had no bucket to put water in, and no sand either. Or we could just leave it. We decided to just leave it, and walked outside of the forest once again, and walked through the forest. We talked about small things, from the pranks we pulled to our circus acts, and then he asked a question that was bound to come up, whether I felt emotions or not.
"Hey, Circe, what's that necklace around your neck that you wear? I've never really seen you take it out of underneath your dress."
I knew what he was talking about. I let out a small breath, and took out the necklace from underneath my dress. It was a small little jar attached to the chain, and inside the jar were tiny little ashes.
"You know how I...have to kill mafia members who break the rules right? This little jar here is each of their ashes. Mary's are in here too. It may be small, but it carries each little bit of them. I never particularly liked killing, obviously. I just started this because...well I don't want them to be forgotten."
I saw his expression change a little bit from slight shock to sadness, then agreement.
"But you have had to kill...a lot of members since so many break the simplest of rules, even on accident. How are each of the ashes in that one jar?"
This wouldn't be to hard to explain
"Ah, I actually have more than one. I keep the rest in one of my pouches. It's the one you've never seen me open."
He nodded. It made sense. I then spoke again
"So yeah. But there is one thing we haven't really thought about. What are we going to do now that Tara betrayed me like that and I had that fun little...outburst."
I shuddered at the memories. I was happy to understand emotions again but god were they annoying at times. Eric stopped, and groaned
"Damn it I didn't think about that part"
A laugh slipped.
"Did you just swear? Never thought I would see the day you of all people would curse"
He slowly stared to laugh, and I joined in, and we just laughed together, sounding like....kids for once. We were both fifteen, but never really got the chance to truly be kids since I pretended to be like one, even though I never truly felt like a teenager. This was really nice, and I was actually enjoying myself finally.
"Seriously though, what in hell are we going to do"
I said, and Eric looked at me
"You just cursed to!"
"Hell isn't a curse word!"
"Yes it is."
"Fine you win"
We giggled. Though it wouldn't last long, I would like to enjoy these final days of happiness.
