"I started my venture. And Mr Atharyu is a major investor. So he invited me because I am his business partner. He doesn't know we are cousins." Varun said gently.

"Congratulations," she said happily but also awkwardly because this was the first time they were having conversations other than him asking me to cook anything for him.

Varun sensed her uneasiness, so he spoke, "So, how is everything here with your brothers? Are you happy?"

'Is she happy?' She asks herself. Now she is away from the torture and taunt of her aunt. She doesn't have to work as a maid here like she used to. But still, she is not happy.

Life here is more complicated than it was there. Here, words and actions hurt more than they used to, at her aunt's place.

Varun stood there as she fought herself to answer. But he waited patiently giving her the time she wanted.

She looked at him "It's nice here".

But Varun looked through her, why won't he? She has grown up right in front of his eyes.

He nodded smilingly. He cannot counter her, how can he? When he never took care of her like a brother should?

Varun's hand reached for his tux pocket. He contemplated whether to make the next move or not. He finally took out a small beautifully wrapped box.

Maheer who was lost in her world didn't notice the movement. Varun coughs a little to get her attention, which he gets successfully.

"This is?" Maheer looked at him with confusion. 'There is no chance that he knows my birthday' she wondered to herself.

"This is a small gift, for the beginning of your new life" His eyes bagging her to accept the gift and accept him.

Maheer was shocked because she was not expecting such sweet gesture from Varun. Not wanting to upset him, she hesitatingly took it from his hands.

"Thank you," He said smiling heartily.

Maheer bit her lower lip, it should be her thanking him. Before she could speak Varun's hand again reached for his tux pocket and produced a purple-color chocolate bar. He forwarded it in her direction.

"Happy Birthday Mahi"

Maheer eyes widened, then he looked at the chocolate in his hand and the note on it which said 'Happy Birthday', her head again snapped to Varun and then slowly the realization sank in. Her eyes filled with unshed tears, but this time with happy ones.

"It was you all along" It was not a question but a statement. Varun rubbed his neck in nervousness and nodded shyly.

"Can you say it again"

Varun frowned not understanding what she was referring to. Realizing his perplexity she speaks,

"Can you wish me again"
