I ran, tripping on my feet in between, and I ran out of this home. When I crossed the main door, instead of going towards the lift, I ran towards the emergency exit stairs. I want movement to feel things are under my control. My mind was blank, and my only focus was to go somewhere, anywhere—no one could reach me.

I ignored the sting that was throbbing in my hand and on my cheeks. I guess they were bleeding, but it was nothing compared to what my heart felt. I was running without stopping, so I don't even know when I descended so many stairs.

I continued to run, but then my feet started scratching against the rough pebbles of the street. The sharp sting shot up my legs. That was when I realizad, that I was barefoot.

Where did I leave my shoes? For a second the thought crossed my mind, but it disappeared just as quickly. It didn't matter.

My only concern was to get somewhere safe. Somewhere far away. Somewhere no one could find me. Because no one could be trusted.

The betrayal was burning in my chest. It was so suffocating that tears kept streaming down my face without my permission. Why is everyone hiding something?

When Cassandra was blessed by Apollo with the gift of prophecy, she refused him, and Apollo twisted the blessing into a curse.

And after that Cassandra would always see the truth, but no one would ever believe her.

She warned everyone about the fall of Troy. But no one believed her.
And when the city finally burned, Cassandra stood there watching the ruins of a disaster she had always known was coming.

So maybe the worst curse in the world isn't betrayal. It's realizing the truth when it's already too late to change anything.

Except with me, I didn't even see the truth coming.

My reality was far worse than this. How was I so blind? How did I not see that what was happening to me was never fate. But a carefully crafted game of chess?

Whom should I trust? The question slipped out of my trembling lips, barely more than a whisper carried away by the cold air.

I came to my senses when I was about to collide with a car coming from the opposite side. My eyes shut tightly in anticipation of the impact. My fingers clenched into my palms, and my whole body was bracing for the hit. Which never came.

The screech of brakes cut through the air, and when I slowly opened my eyes, the car had stopped just a few feet away from me.

My breathing was uneven as I lifted my gaze. The door of the car swung open, and a figure stepped out hurriedly, striding toward me.
