Inside the helicopter, there was no sound other than the loud noise of the chopper blades slicing through the sky and Laswell's voice informing about the findings she had received.
The laptop was positioned right in the centre so that the entire team could see it clearly. Price, Gaz, and Ghost sat on one side, while Roach, you, and Soap sat on the other side. Your attention is all focused on the screen and the voice of the older woman echoing through the comms.
"Fifteen minutes ago, Farah got in touch, passing on intel about rumours of chemical weapons in play. But she’s got no solid lead on who's behind it yet, nor confirmation that the weapon even exists." The woman explained while sending a screen share about what she mentioned.
Hearing the words "chemical weapons," you try to remember if there really is something like that in your memory. But after trying for a while, you can't remember anything. You don't recall anything about the said threat. Is this one of the butterfly effects you caused? Or is it that you don't remember at all?
Just as you were about to think further about it, Laswell's voice came through the comms again. "But no need to worry for now. I’ve had a word with Farah to gather more intel. Stay focused on the current objective, but if you spot anything relevant, report it immediately."
"We understand, Kate," Price replied while nodding his head.
"Ghost, Chamber, you're on point to coordinate with the unit in Czech. As there’ll be more senior agents, Chamber, you’ll handle translation—most of them are fluent in Russian."
You unconsciously clenched one of your fists upon hearing the task assigned to you, but you quickly calmed yourself down because this was not the time to act selfishly.
"Yes, ma'am." You steeled yourself and replied, then met Ghost's gaze, who turned to look at you at the same time. You both just stared at each other as if that alone would be enough confirmation, before looking back at the laptop.
"The rest will execute the plan—locate the flash drive. It’s suspected to contain intel on Makarov’s whereabouts." Laswell continued and once again showed the overall plan to be remembered.
"Exactly as planned," Price said firmly. "Make sure not to miss anything, we can't lose Makarov." The captain then turned his gaze towards you.
Feeling the attention shift to you, you looked back at the older man. "Please remember your promise," you reminded him.
Price just smiled at you and nodded, then turned back to look ahead to end the call with Laswell.
The rest of the journey to Czech was quite calm, accompanied only by the noisy sound of the helicopter engine muffled by the headphones you were wearing.
Price and Gaz talked among themselves about mission-related matters, while Ghost quietly listened to their conversation and joined in a few times to add his opinion.
Meanwhile, you and Roach talk occasionally, with Roach repeatedly asking about your journal again that is still in his possession. You don't know what makes him so excited to read about the book, but you couldn't care less as long as he's happy. On the other hand, someone who usually can't sit still and will keep talking, Soap, is actually the calmest right now.
In his hands, he holds the book you threw at Ghost earlier on the plane when returning from Las Almas to the base.
His eyes remained fixed on the page where you wrote how he would be shot by Makarov. Twice.
The tension between the two of you had yet to be solved.
You were unable to bring yourself not to be mad at him for whatever reason. When you first joined, he was the only one who didn't make fun of you and actually made an effort to include you in every conversation possible. The first person to approach you is him.
And in contrast to the rest, even though you joined the team last, you and Soap are the closest; you could almost say that you share so many things you were sure there's nothing left that he doesn't know about you except the truth about who you truly are.
Soap, on the other hand, felt guilty and uneasy for many different reasons. However, he also felt betrayed. He felt out of place when he eventually realised that you genuinely know a lot more about the team, more than you told them, especially about him. And the reminding of how close you are to one another doesn't help the problem that makes him feel like he actually never knew you at all in the first place.
