The laughter began to die down once the truck got on an uneven path inside a forest.

The trees were so lush, they blocked most light from the sun.

Your eyes keep looking back and forth between the only dead body inside the truck and outside to the familiar yet not so familiar road.

It's been so long.

You used to walk yourself around when you had to go to school back when you were little. You even get teased by your schoolmate, saying something like you live in a cave because you never allowed anyone to go to your house.

And you never sleep over at a friend's house. That's if you even have a friend. You could've had one or two, but your mind was too focused on getting yourself enlisted in the army rather than enjoying your childhood properly.

Though, now looking back to your past, you feel a mix of emotion between regret and relief. It's really confusing, but at least now you're not alone? You hope so.

The silence was broken by the truck slowly coming to a stop on a vast clearing of green, and your old commander's voice shouting from the front that we were finally here.

One by one, all of them piling out of the vehicle.

The last was you and Ghost as he helped with the stretcher.

Once it landed on the ground, your old teammate took over the task, saying you should be leading in front because it's your house.

They also told you how curious they are because it was the first time you opened up to them. No one knows about your file except the commander, so getting to know the legend of you that left behind to join Task Force 141 was their opportunity.

You know they had no ill intent when they said it, unlike your schoolmate back in your school. So you thank them and walk to the front to meet your current and former commander, standing together, waiting for you.

Ghost was right behind you, silently following your step without interrupting anything. He's happy with his place for now as long as you're not mad with his presence.

While the rest of the boys followed behind Ghost. And your old teammate follows in the far back.

You nod to both leaders from two different forces as you walk past them and start to lead them in a one-man trail. Telling the rest to do so and not wander around on their own.

Thankfully, they silently obey, and no one questions it.

It was filled with silence as your mind began to drift off to some old memories yet again.

But this time, you decided to voice it out.

"Do you know why we walk like this?" You asked to no one in particular. Your voice broke the stillness, and from how silent it was at the moment, even the soldiers at the very back could hear you.

"My father," you started. Usually, when you said the word, a pain in your chest immediately stopped you from continuing to do so. Oddly enough, this time it feels like you finally let go of something. "My father had a strange obsession about extra protection."

You began to hum. The melody is one of where your father used to sing to lull you to sleep. "So, except for the ground we're currently walking on, and where I will lead you later, the rest was filled with landmines."

A series of murmurs broke out between the soldiers. You let out a soft chuckle at their reaction.

"Yeah, you better watch your step if you want to get out of here alive." Just for shit and giggles, as you tried not to get dragged into any unpleasant memories any further, you added, "And please don't get any funny ideas to try it yourself just to prove a point. Because I prefer to live longer than this."
