As you and Daisuke waited, the silence of the cabin settled around you like a heavy blanket.
To pass the time, the two of you hummed songs together—
half-hearted renditions of tunes you barely remembered the words to.The faint crackle of the fire in the hearth provided a soothing backdrop as the moments stretched on.
You were sprawled out on the couch, legs dangling lazily over the edge, while Daisuke sat on the floor in front of you, idly picking at the carpet fibers, Boredom began to creep in.
So, with a mischievous grin, you leaned forward and began gathering small sections of his hair.
"Hold still, Dai. I'm gonna braid it,"
you announced, already running your fingers through the strands. He flinched, craning his neck to look back at you.
"What? Why? It's gonna hurt!""Ugh, you're so dramatic, Dai,"
you teased, stifling a laugh as you tugged gently at his hair.
He yelped in exaggerated protest, causing you to roll your eyes."Okay, okay, fine.
I'll do something different. Stop whining."With a gentler approach, you switched tactics, combing his hair back into a makeshift style.
You were both too comfortable to care about perfection.
He settled down eventually, muttering under his breath about how you'd better not make him look ridiculous. You just laughed, softly fixing stray pieces with your fingers."Man, can you imagine what Curly would say if he came back and saw all this?
Like, Jimmy losing his mind, us sitting here like we're on vacation.
Dude would flip his shit."
Daisuke said after a while, tilting his head back slightly to glance at you."Oh, he'd definitely freak.
He'd probably start lecturing everyone the second he walked in. Something about 'upholding order' or whatever he's always on about."
You snorted at the thought, picturing Curly's face—his usual demeanor twisted into utter disbelief.Daisuke chuckled, his shoulders shaking slightly as he imagined it.
"Yeah, he'd probably throw in a whole speech about how we're all disappointments or something."
The two of you fell into a
comfortable rhythm.
For a moment, the chaos outside the cabin didn't matter. You and Daisuke, sitting there together, were safe and warm, finding humor in the absurdity of it all.
Even as the night stretched on and the waiting grew more tedious, you felt a strange sense of contentment. In the end, it didn't matter what Curly would think. Right now, it was just the two of you, and that was enough.
You smirked as you admired your handiwork—two messy pigtails sticking out on either side of Daisuke's head.
"Your name is Daisy now,"
you teased, leaning back to snap a few pictures of him with your phone.
The flash illuminated his faux-annoyed expression as he stared blankly ahead, lips pursed like he was questioning all of his life choices.Daisuke groaned but eventually pulled out his phone to check his reflection. He tilted his head to the side, examining your work.
