The day of Daisuke's nieces' birthday party had finally arrived, and though you were excited to meet Amelia and Delilah for the first time, your mind still carried the weight of the upcoming move.
You hadn't told him yet—it wasn't the time, not today.
Today was about the twins and making this day special for them.
Sliding into the passenger seat of his car, you adjusted your outfit and pulled down the sun visor to check your makeup.Out by the trunk, Daisuke was busy loading the neatly wrapped gifts you'd picked out together.
"You ready?"
he asked, putting the car into gear."Of course, are you?"
you replied, trying to focus on the moment. He grinned.
"Hell yeah. You have no idea how competitive these little shits are when it comes to roller skating.
They'll probably race you and try to wipe you out on purpose."You rolled your eyes but couldn't help laughing.
"Oh, great. Can't wait to get my ass handed to me by a couple of nine-year-olds. That'll be super fucking humbling."The banter eased some of your anxiety, and for a few moments, you let yourself forget about everything weighing on your mind.
Daisuke reached for the aux cord and handed it to you.
"Here. DJ [Name], don't fuck this up.""Oh, you're trusting me with music? Bold move,"
you teased, scrolling through your playlist."I have faith in you,"
he said. Then he paused and added with a sly grin,
"Unless you put on some sad-ass shit that makes us cry before we even get to the party.""Trust me, I've got this."
You plugged in your phone and selected an upbeat song, the bass immediately thumping through the car. "See?"Daisuke nodded in approval, tapping the steering wheel to the beat.
"Alright, I'll give you that one. Don't let it go to your head, though.""Yeah, yeah,"
The rest of the drive was filled with lighthearted jokes and playful teasing. But even as you laughed, the nagging thoughts of your impending move lingered in the back of your mind.
As the car pulled up to the skating rink, you took a deep breath, steeling yourself....
The skating rink was alive with energy. LED lights glowed in every color, reflecting off the glossy floor as kids zipped around on their skates.
The smell of pizza, popcorn, and sugary snacks filled the air, blending with the upbeat pop music blasting from the speakers.Chatter and laughter echoed everywhere, adding to the vibrant atmosphere.
Daisuke walked in beside you, balancing several gift bags in his hands. Before you even had a chance to take in the scene, two high-pitched voices squealed out,
"Uncle Daisuke!"Two young girls darted toward him, their skates clicking against the floor as they jumped into his arms.
He stumbled slightly, trying to keep hold of the bags while steadying the energetic pair."Whoa, easy, easy! I got you!"
he said, laughing as he hugged them both. You couldn't help but smile at the sight. Daisuke looked completely in his element as his nieces clung to him like koalas. It warmed your heart to see how much they adored him.
