"The wedding will take place after the princess turns nineteen." Azrael informs me as if he has any control over my own sister. The one person I vowed to keep innocent, and now she was being taken away from me and into the arms of a monster. Yes, an actual monster. The world works in strange ways, just as fate works in sick ways. I've known magic, I've seen magic, but magic is something learned, not something you're born with. Althea doesn't have magic, she has power gifted to her from the divine, and until a couple days ago, I thought she was the only one.

But then I learned that he did too. The man sitting opposite me, eating without a care in the world. And why would he care? He has power, both literally and figuratively, and knows how to wield it, yet the only thing he demands is my sister. He did exactly what my asshole father should've seen happening after what he did, he blackmailed him, and Callie just so happened to be in the middle of the conflict, falling victim to something she is clueless about.

Why should Callie be the one to take the fall for what my father did? For who he took lives from? It's not her fault she's his blood.

I could feel the fork in my palm bending from how tightly I gripped it, resisting the urge to tackle this fucker to the ground and make sure he never thinks of my sister again.

"Stall it." I finally gritted out. Althea paused beside me, her fork hanging in the air, but Azrael seemed unfazed.

We sat in a long dining table, one that could fit way more than just the three of us, in a luxurious room, with gold pillars that went from ground to the high ceiling. In each corner stood one servant, apart from the chef and cooks coming out to set the table.

"If you're so overprotective over your sister, you can just say that, Aias, but it doesn't change the fact that she'll be my wife, no matter how far you postpone the wedding."

I swear I will kill this fucker sooner or later.

"I don't give a fuck. Callie is barely eighteen."

"One year is enough for her to accept it."

That's the thing. Callie has believed in love her whole life, while I've despised it, but I know that if anything, she'll be completely unbothered with the wedding, saying it will make father happy. But I know that before father's happiness, she hopes for true love, that maybe, her husband, even if she's forced to marry him, will love her and cherish her. And it's not like I don't wish that for her, it's not like Azrael is some big villain, but that doesn't stop him from perceiving human emotions differently.

I grit my teeth. "One year." I finally said, a scowl on my face.

  "That's settled then."
