I don't know what day it is

I don't know what day it is. Which is weird - I have some kind of obsession with keeping track of time. Ever since I got here, actually. Sure, in my past life, I was living life on a countdown between rents, but atleast there wasn't a clock counting down until my deathday over my head. Now there is. And ever since I woke up in this stupid world, I've been feeling this clock over my head dawning on me with every passing day.

I don't know if I trust what Aias said. He did move me up to a better room, but even that is basically a prison to me. It may be considered a guest room, as far as guest rooms go in a Palace, but I don't have the freedom to move outside of the room. Meals are brought inside regularly by the same squirming and shy-looking guard, and Aias hasn't visited ever since that day.

So, I decided to do the next best thing - take advantage of that stupid guard.

Knocking sounds from the other side of the door, before it opened. "Lady Asten, your food is here."

The man entered my room, setting down a glass of water and a simple meal. I might be a noble, but I don't get anything fancy in here.

"Say, what's your name?" I asked him from the windowsill I was sitting on. It was decorated with high quality silk pillows. Once I noticed them, I realized Aias was giving me special treatment, as he had no actual 'cell for nobles' in the palace. That gave me reason to trust him again just a bit more.

"Daniel, lady Asten." He responded, avoiding my gaze.

  "What day is it, Daniel?"

"It's thursday." I almost rolled my eyes at his words.

  "What's the date, I mean."

  "Twenty fourth of july, 624."

My birthday is in less than a month. Eris' birthday is in less than a month, too. That means the novel will start in less than a month.

I've tried to alter the storyline, but what if all I did was in vain? The novel hasn't started yet, anyway.

And from here, I won't be able to stop it from being fulfilled.

I have to get out of here, and quickly.

I stared down at Daniel's arm, a thought popping up in my mind suddenly.

"Can I try something?" My voice sounded before I could stop it.

He seemed to take a step back, but I beckoned for him to come closer.

Once he was in arm's reach, I pulled him closer and pulled out the needle I was using to sew. Life was so boring in here, I learnt how to sew. With it, I pricked his finger. He pulled his hand back as if it burnt, but I was faster, gripping it tighter and bringing it closer.

I hovered my free hand over the injured skin, waiting for the familiar glow.

Nothing.

"What the..." I heard myself mumbling, letting his hand fall to his side.
