Months later
After the tragic death of Kanae, Sae had taken it upon herself to stay busy. She wouldn't interact with anyone, just constantly awaiting for the next mission. There were times when she wouldn't come upon one of her friends from the corps but made no effort in talking to them, well except for Gyomei. If she wasn't by herself she was with him. Gyomei has tried having conversations with her but to no avail. He knows she listens to what he has to say but doesn't speak. He remembers how she used to be, back when they saved her when she was young. They meditate from time to time, which does help. They would have to basically force her to go but soon she went along with it on her own, more and more. Gyomei can tell she enjoys it, seeing her calm and collected, only for a sort while.
The other hashira would ask about her. Questions Gyomei doesn't feel the need to answer. He can only say she is doing better but that's what he always tells them. The questions began to happen more and more. "Why doesn't she talk to us"? "Why don't we go on missions with her anymore"? "Is she eating enough"? Months and months of her friends worrying about her but none worried more than the master. He was now at the point where he could no longer see. His sickness had grown worse and all he wanted was to see Sae but she wouldn't see him, no one knows why. As of now everyone had stopped with the questions. Everyone just went on with their lives hoping one day Sae will go back to her old self.
Alone she stood, gazing up at the moonlit sky, the breeze cool and soft. "Hey Sae, it's time for dinner". At the mention of food, she got up at a quick pace towards the table. "Thank you, Genya". He returned the thanks with a smile and began to eat. They sat in silence for a while until Sae spoke.
"How's your training with Gyomei? You seem more lively today than yesterday". She asked before scooping a spoon full of soup into her mouth.
"We just did more exercises today. He said I need to work on my form more".
"I see, you know we can have you work with someone else if you don't like working with Gyomei".
"No, it's best I work with him, I have my reasons".
The rest of the night was quiet. Genya was doing some house chores and Sae was stretching. No one knows about Genya staying with her besides Gyomei and the master, only because Sae requested it to be kept secret. Genya is the only person she will talk to nowadays, she feels bad for not talking with anyone else, especially master. She just needs time alone, to focus on herself and Genya. There are times she wants to go see Sanemi but she doesn't feel like it's the right time. If she were to see someone, it would have to be master. She knows deep down the master is upset, Sae was gonna change that, starting tomorrow morning she was going to go see him. It's a good start as well as the perfect time, she knows the other hashira are all on missions and won't be back for a while.
