She was keenly aware these ladies had no say in their matter of sacrifice; it was better to listen to the slave girls, for the daughters of criminals were more likely not to care and be more thirsty for payback against anyone. Outsiders understood the challenges in the lives of the same authority figures that native residents would never be keenly aware of.

"You are right. My name is Chikara. My master's house called me Kara for short. My descent from my masters did not protect me; I was chosen as a sacrifice to that serpent. I was sold to a cruel family for blood money. The Mogwai from my grave was built out of that cruel gesture. I don't know what the money was for, but it was the oldest, creepiest-looking house in Loid County. The Fan family had no part in this. It is unfortunate the attack was against my friends and me, of whom I lived here with before. I came here because the children listen better than the adults, my Queen. I would never wish evil on anyone. The Mogwai is a consequence of my second master's sole heir's crime—a seed of hatefulness that now pervades deep into his heart. I did not create it. When you find him, call my name, and my connected respectively forgiven criminal friends and also innocent ones of whom you buried shall join you in stalling him.

There is only one way to repel the Mogwai by burning paper money. The way to totally end it has not been found. Be careful of the one whom you hunt; he is a very twisted liar—a Mendax. He will make up grand stories that aren't true, regardless of the Mogwai attached to his heart."

With each word, Chi Li could feel the tension in the air thicken—a sense of trepidation loomed with the mention of this deceiver. Her determination solidified; she would not let fear dictate her actions. Grasping tightly to the gravity of Chikara's plea, she vowed that she would pursue this twisted soul, not just for the sake of justice, but to honor the memory of those who had been sacrificed in silence."Your story will not be forgotten, Chikara," Chi Li promised, her voice resolute as she faced the spirit. "I will call your name when the time comes. We will see to it that justice is served, not only for you but for all who suffered. I will confront this Mendax and put an end to the darkness that lingers in this land."

Returning to the present timeline, Mulan turned to Musa with a knowing look. "Evie and Lonnie told me you've been holding a Mogwai inside of you."

Musa nodded, her expression a mix of relief and trepidation. "Yes, apparently so. It's still in our room. Evie's Reflective Light from her mirror managed to repel it. And my reflection friends showed up—part of my teammates got a second half of them to appear through a very good light magic friend."

"Grandmother said they prefer fresh water and dislike ash piles," Mulan added her brows furrowing in thought.

Lonnie, ever inquisitive, chimed in, "That seems a silly thing to despise. They make ash sometimes, don't they? And they smell like ash; they are dead fabric rips in time and space, aren't they, Mom?"

"They are," Mulan admitted, "but they will not touch a fresh source of water protected by ashes scattered around them. We need to protect the well, girls."

"Follow me. Your friends will be fine. With the protection of Mushu and my family's cricket, the rest of my family is in decent shape, as well as Ben," Mulan assured them, her voice steady and confident.

"Trust her," Evie whispered to Musa, her eyes bright with admiration. "Mulan knows what she's doing. Out of all heroes, I trust her more than all the rest, Musa."

Musa felt a warm sense of reassurance wash over her at Evie's words. Mulan was a beacon of strength, her experience and wisdom providing a stable foundation in these uncertain times. With a determined nod, she aligned herself with the group, ready to take on whatever challenges lay ahead. Together, they would face the Mogwai and protect their friends, united in their purpose.
