[i hope you guys enjoy this update. 🩷]
The Dallas trip was canceled. Tahj made her way to Brooklyn and immediately devised a plan with Grant. There was no way he was showing up to Revive events in this dejected state. With his sister being in the hospital, he had to free his schedule and focus on her.
"So..." Tahj trailed off, adjusting the skully on her head. "They want to change the dates to February thirteenth and fourteenth."
"Nah." Grant shook his head, not processing Revive's offer. "That's bad timing."
Tahj glanced at Grant, who was sitting across from her. Instead of speaking, she sat and waited for him to finish.
"Bad timing." He repeated, head leaning to the side as he rubbed his temples. Valentine's Day was approaching, and he didn't want to spend it working. Grant was casually planning something exquisite for Solana. This was their first time celebrating together and he didn't want to screw it up.
"We should try to push for the end of February."
"Yeah." Grant nodded, agreeing. "That'll work. I don't have much on my schedule...yet."
"Alright." Tahj sighed, immediately going to her contact list. "Yo, did that lawyer ever get back with you?"
Grant knew she was referring to Laila. She worked alongside Chad, the guy who rescinded his internship offer. Laila called a few weeks ago and offered Grant an internship that would not only pay more but also give him free lunches. Laila promised to call him back, but she had yet to keep her word.
Grant was still waiting.
"Not yet." He rasped. "I'm sure she's just busy. Right now, I'll play the waiting game."
"Don't wait too long," Tahj advised him, brows raised. She stood up from the couch, pulling her shirt over her protruding belly. "I'mma make a few phone calls. Why don't you check with Diane and see about Nique? Maybe we should head out to the hospital."
"I'll see..." Grant trailed off. "If she's made progress."
"Alright." Tahj nodded and left the room.
Grant sat there for a moment with his arms casually leaning against his thighs. He intertwined his large hands as he surveyed the neat living area of the hotel room he was in. Everything looked small, for him. Grant was 6'8" and made everything look almost miniature.
Pushing that topic aside, he brushed his hands over his face and sighed. Grant was not motivated to do anything because of his sister's circumstances. Not only was Nique severely injured, but she was now expecting a baby. There were so many holes that made Nique's situation...skeptical.
As a lawyer, Grant couldn't help but wonder who was driving. There had to be a driver because he knew Nique didn't care for vehicles with powerful engines like the old-school Corvette she had to be cut out of. Nique knew nothing about sports vehicles, let alone the antique ones.
"Grant." A soft voice rasped, catching his attention.
Grant looked over, taking in Solana and her beautiful ambiance. She stood by the archway wearing a tank top with shorts. Her hair was pulled into a low ponytail, and she wore no shoes on the soft carpet.
"Your mom has been trying to get you on the phone." Solana continued. "She called me. Nique is still in ICU, but they're finally letting people see her."
Grant nodded, internally happy to hear his sister was progressing.
"Alright, is she awake?"
Solana glanced at her phone before shaking her head. "Your mom mentioned her waking up and then falling asleep repeatedly."
