Grant was in the middle of planning for his upcoming meeting with a few faculty members. He wanted to discuss the possibility of security expansion for the campus. Hugh knocked on his room door rapidly before he instructed him to enter. As soon as he turned around, he noticed the solemn expression on Hugh's face.
Something was wrong.
Whatever the issue was, it was serious. Hugh always joked around. He didn't have a serious bone in his body. However, now he was behaving in such a somber manner.
"What's up?" Grant questioned him with concern etched across his face.
"An accident happened in the gym a few hours ago..." Hugh began.
Immediately, Grant grew alert. Solana appeared in his mind because she told him she had volleyball practice. He pushed away from his desk and rolled his chair around.
"What happened?"
"You know the Muslim girl with the accent?" Hugh asked his friend.
Grant nodded. He knew who she was. Solana introduced him, and she called the young woman her friend. "Desirae?"
"Yeah, her. She collapsed on the floor and...shit went left."
"Huh?" Grant was still confused about what was going on. "So...is she alive?"
Hugh didn't respond immediately. He looked at his shoes and sighed, "Solana is at the hospital—she's been there for a few hours. You have to get her."
Grant was oblivious to the entire situation. He'd been holed up in his room studying and figuring out his schedule for the week. He immediately jumped up and grabbed his belongings before leaving the room.
Instead of walking on foot, Grant took his car. The hospital was not in walking range, and he was still dealing with his achy leg. Grant didn't feel like putting too much pressure on it. When he arrived, he tried to pinpoint her. Winston's Medical Center was massive, and there were several areas for different specialties. He aimed for one of the main waiting rooms and noticed Solana sitting in one of the chairs.
Grant stood there momentarily as he took in his girlfriend. Solana was still dressed in her gym attire that she wore for practice. It looked as if she was covered in blood. Her shirt, shorts, and hands were covered in gore. She sat there palming her face as she bounced her jittery legs.
Surprisingly, the waiting area was empty. She was the only person sitting inside. Grant took advantage of the moment and slowly walked inside. He stood before her and reached his hand out to touch her shoulder. Immediately, Solana stopped her jittering movement and raised her head. Grant noticed her flushed face.
Even her face had a few splashes of blood on it. Solana had been crying her eyes out. Her entire face looked swollen from the nonstop wailing. She sniffled as she continued to stare at Grant. He felt sorry for her and the emotions she displayed. It pained Grant to see her in despair.
"I'm here to take you home." He stated with sternness in his voice.
Solana only shook her head.
"You can't stay up here like this." He added. "It's not healthy. Come to my dorm. You can take a hot shower and possibly get a meal."
"I can't eat." Her voice was hoarse.
"You can at least try," Grant stated. "Come on. Baby, you have to come with me. I know you're in pain, but...this isn't the right move. You can't sit up here forever."
He reached his hand out, wanting her to take it. Solana didn't grab it immediately. She was still a little reluctant to leave the hospital but knew it wouldn't make sense to stay.
