Rocky adjusted his black coat as he shifted into his human form. Each step toward the dark oak staircase felt heavier, the weight of his responsibilities pressing down on him.
As he ascended, a familiar sense of dread clawed at him, leaving him emotionally drained before he even reached the top.
The large double doors creaked open, courtesy of two guards, and Rocky immediately locked eyes with his father. The elder Kang sat in his usual chair, exuding an aura of control and intimidation. Beside him stood his mother, her worried gaze softening the tension only slightly.
"Rocky, my son... how is Taehyun?" Mrs. Kang gently asked, breaking the silence. She hadn’t slept peacefully in days, haunted by thoughts of her youngest son.
Rocky glanced at her and shook his head. He hadn’t visited Taehyun yet, not since their argument. He couldn’t bring himself to face his brother until things settled down, until he could be certain Taehyun was okay.
"Why are you here?"
Mr. Kang's cold voice cut through the moment, redirecting the focus.
"You should be in the office, patching up the disaster your brother caused. I also heard about the progress of your collaboration with the new company. Impressive work, my son. Very good."
Rocky inhaled sharply, holding back his frustration.
This man…
His father’s relentless prioritization of the business over their family made his blood boil. How could he focus on corporate matters while Taehyun’s well-being hung in the balance?
He couldn’t take it anymore.
This life, dictated by his father’s cold, calculated decisions, had already taken so much from him.
The business, the unyielding rules—these were the reasons everything in his life had crumbled. His relationship with Taehyun was strained beyond repair, and he’d given up on his lover without a fight, all because he’d been blinded by his father’s expectations.
But after the recent incident, Rocky had seen something in the eyes of his pack. A deep sadness that mirrored his own. It was the same sadness he’d seen in himself when looking at his father.
He refused to become like him.
No matter the cost, Rocky vowed to use every ounce of his strength to fix what had been broken. He would protect his pack’s freedom, even if it meant defying Mr. Kang and everything he’d once stood for.
He would bring back the stars that had fallen from their pack.
This would be his greatest, and hardest, mission. He want to achieve.
Rocky stood silently in the grand room, the tension between him and Mr. Kang thick enough to cut. But this time, he wasn’t going to let it consume him. With a deep breath, he stepped forward, meeting his father’s piercing gaze with one of his own.
