8:31 PM Beomgyu's POV
I sat in silence inside the cold car, my eyes glued to the passing dark scenery in a desperate attempt to calm my shaking nerves. The partition between the driver and the backseat made me feel even more trapped.
The car slowed down, and an unbearable heaviness settled in my chest. Hyunjin wasn’t with me, he was riding in his family’s car.
"Beomie, my dear…" My aunt’s honeyed tone broke through the stillness, pulling my gaze toward her. I looked at her hesitantly.
"I’m sorry for the things I’ve done to you..." she said with a sad smile.
Is she being real?
Aunt Lee gently placed her hand on mine, resting on my lap, and gave it a soft squeeze. I stared at her, confused, as she sighed and smiled subtly.
"You should act properly tonight." she calmly said. "This party is very important to us. It’s the key to making our company rise to the top, just behind the Kang’s Company."
My heart clenched. I had dared to hope, even for a second, that she felt some shred of conscience for her cruelty. But no—her selfishness and heartlessness remained. All she cared about was her own success and satisfaction, even if it meant trampling on the lives of the innocent.
I swallowed hard, trying to keep my composure. Suddenly, I felt the cold sting of metal against my neck.
My breath hitched, my eyes widening in horror.
A knife?!
I stared in disbelief as the blade emerged from a fan she had been holding.
H-How?! Is she insane!
I wanted to scream, but my voice was caught in my throat. How did she even get this? Does she think this is some kind of game?!
"Don’t forget our deal, my dear..." she whispered, her lips dangerously close to my ear. "Act normal tonight. I’ll be watching you—and your cousin too. If either of you plans to bring me down, I won’t hesitate to bring you both down first. Remember, you’re facing a real demon."
Her sneer sent a shiver down my spine.
Tears pooled in my eyes as her voice dripped with venom, her dark gaze pinning me in place. I squeezed my eyes shut and bit down on my lower lip as I felt the blade press lightly into my skin.
God, please… help me!
"Madam, we’ve arrived." The driver announced.
My aunt pulled back immediately, her expression shifting from a cruel predator to a sweet, doting lady. The knife vanished as quickly as it had appeared, leaving me breathless and trembling.
