Chapter 16

Farrah

I always thought that arguments are normal in all families, the odd thing about our family is we cannot let a day pass without having a single argument.

My father commented in the middle of our dinner.

“She’s actually performing well po, tito.” Ybrahim said.

“Is she? Stop defending her, ijo. My dad replied.

“Dad, Kuya saw me as I spent a night without having a proper sleep just to pass that course.” I argued.

“Then why did you fail?” He looked straight into my eyes.

“I see,” My father said before leaving the dining area.

Sanay na akong ganiyan ang ama ko sa akin, simula pagkabata ko at wala akong naipakitang kahit na anong talento o talino— he was already convinced that I’m actually good for nothing.

And maybe, he’s right.

I heard several knocks from Ybrahim but I chose not to go out.

Nakakahiyang madatnan niya akong ganito, I look miserable.

The scary thing is— I feel numb. I can’t even feel pain anymore?

Tons of crumpled papers can be seen on my desk, kung ano-anong sketches ang nagawa ko maghapon out of boredom.

Someone knocked on my door once again.

“Farrah...” It was Ybrahim’s voice.

“I’m not in the mood to talk, West.” I answered for the first time.

“May Vitamilk ako rito...”

“Hey,” I said.

“Can I come in?” He asked.

“Thought this would make you feel better.”

“Thank you.” I said.

“You ready to talk?” Tanong niya sa akin.

Umiling ako.

“Let’s just be quiet, then. I enjoy silence too.” He smiled, and I suddenly found myself smiling too.

If ever kailangan ko ng company when everything came crashing down, I’d call his name.

“Do you feel better?” He asked and I nodded. “That’s good.” He added.

“I always wanted to be like my brother.” Sambit ko.

“Dapat hindi.” Nangunot ang noo ko sa sinabi nito.

“Bakit?” Tanong ko sakaniya.

“You are already amazing, Farrah. Sagot niya.
