Part 22 - Moments to Die For

A/n: Hi everyone. I hope all had a good Christmas and I can't wait to see you all in the new year. :)

I stepped into the boiling hot water, watching the grim and blood flood off my body onto the tiled bathroom floor, contrasting the beige ceramic with red and brown specks. Running my hand through my hair, I reflected on how lucky I was to be alive, adrenaline still coursing through me, not just from the Maze but from the sandy-haired boy, who is in the other room of my hut, waiting for me. I can't help but start smiling like a lunatic at the thought of him. Happiness coursing to my body, to the point where I do little jumps, careful of not slipping on the water though. 

After feeling clean enough, from lathering too much soap on, I stepped out of the water, missing the warmth it brought me. Getting dried and dressed into comfortable clothes, I opened the door to see Newt sitting on the floor, legs out in front, reading a leather covered book that looked about 1000 pages thick. The Bestiary.

Leaning against the doorframe, I questioned him curiously 'Why are you reading that?'

He looked up at me, amusement filled his eyes 'Am I not allowed to be well-researched about my girlfriend?' he responded, patting the spot on the wool carpet next to him. I stifled a laugh, sitting down next to him, leaning my back against my wooden bed frame. The boy wrapped an arm around my shoulders, kissing my forehead lovingly as I rested my head on his shoulder. We sat in comforting silence as Newt continued reading for a few minutes. I felt my eyes grow heavy and begin to droop as a headache started to emerge. Closing my eyes, I melted into Newt and felt his lips press on my forehead again. I could hear him slowly close the book and return it to under my bed

'Come on, love. Let's go to bed.' he said softly

I opened my eyes slowly as I stood up wearily, Newt doing the same. I made my way towards the mound of covers that was permanently on top of the bed.

'Can you stay with me please?' I asked in a tone that made me sound like a sleepy, clingy toddler.

'I wouldn't dare think of leaving you.' He said as he climbed into the opposite side of my bed. Going under the covers, I found Newt and huddled into him as I closed my eyes, melting into him once again. He wrapped his arms around me, protectively and comforting at the same time, as I drifted off into peaceful rest.

~Newt POV~

I woke up with the sound of someone knocking at the wooden door. My eyes slowly adjusted to the dark as I carefully unwrapped myself from the beautiful women, who I can call my girlfriend. I slowly walked to the door and opened it to see Frypan and Ace, who upon noticing me has this very cheerful expression to the point where Frypan is borderline squealing.

'Shhh, you are gonna wake her up.' I reminded them making them both get even more excited

'Took you guys long enough to get together. I was so close to locking you two in a room until you walked out making out.' said Ace while caused I slightly laughed while feeling awkward at the same time.

'Anyway, can we come?' asked Frypan

'Yeah of course.' I said moving to the side, letting them enter. They walked in as I shut the door behind them. 

'Also, we brought you too dinner since you both missed it.' said Fry

'Ok, thank you Fry.' I said appreciatively, amazed at the amount of time we spent sleeping

'Omg, it is so much quieter when she is asleep. No annoying people.' Ace joked causing us all to laugh. I looked at her again, curled up on the bed as my heart swirled with emotions but mainly one. Love. 

The three of us started chatting away about pretty much everything and it was nice to reconnect with Fry again while also meeting Ace They both are really nice people, and I am glad that Y/n had them when she was at her lowest. We had conversations ranging from the night in the Maze to Gally's infamous outbursts which has ceased to stop. 

'Anger issues much? He seriously needs some help. Maybe we should open up a new job. Therapist.' Ace said, which made us all start laughing.

'Ok, well Ace and I have got to go, but it has been really nice talking to you again Newt.' Frypan said standing up.

'Thanks mate. Same to you and Ace it has been nice to meet you.' I replied, which Ace nodded in return.

I opened the door for Ace and Fry but not without Frypan saying a last thing. 'Newt, I know you are a good guy and all, but if you hurt her, I will kill you myself and then bury your body on the outskirts of the Glade where no one will find you.' I laughed a little and nodded my head. Frypan, happy with the answer, returned his expression back to a smile as if he didn't threaten me a second earlier. They both walked out, and I closed the door behind them. 

Picking up the two plates off the table where Fry left them, I walked over the bed where Y/n was still sleeping. I sat down next to her, unable to get myself to wake her up. She looked so peaceful snuggled into the covers. I slowly shook her up, causing her to curl further into the bed as if that would magically make me disappear.

'Come on, love. I've got some dinner.' I whispered softly. She groaned, slowly getting up, sitting against the bedframe, eyes still half closed. She rubbed one eye, slowly fully opening both of them.

'Sorry to wake you up love. Frypan and Ace brought some dinner.' I said handing her the plate.

'Thank you, blondie.' she said softly still tired, grabbing the plate from my hands. My heart swelled with affection at the sight of her in front of me. We both ate in silence, just enjoying each other's presence and comfort. After we had finished eating, we got back into bed, wrapped in each other's arms. These were the moments that I knew that I would die for.

'Goodnight love.' I said pressing a kiss on her forehead

'Goodnight blondie.' She said in return sleepily. After some moments of silence, I looked back down at her, already sleeping form. 

I would die for her.
