A/n: Hello everyone,
It feels weird being on here again but here I am. I would like to apologise for not updating for a couple months. The truth is I have completely lost motivation for writing and it was starting to feel like a job not a hobby that I enjoy. Along with the pressure of school and exams I unconsciously took a very long break from this book. I would like the thank everyone who has been waiting so patiently for me to update. I will try and update more often so we can hopefully get this book finished before its one-year anniversary (31st August).
Question of the Post: What non-Maze Runner character do you think would survive the maze?
I think there is quite a few that could but the main ones that stood out to me were Derek Hale from Teen Wolf. Not only could he use his werewolf abilities give him a huge advantage as he would have heightened senses, speed and strength, his mentality and natural survival instincts would definitely help him survive the Maze?
The sound of metal against stone echoed off the Glade walls as Gally scratched off Thomas' name, signalling the possible fate of him. Three boys brought Teresa and an 'unconscious' Thomas across the grassy plain, the rest of the Gladers starting the hover around the entrance of the Maze for the banishment.
'Gally. It doesn't feel right, man.' Winston protested, even though it was way too late
'Yeah, what if Thomas is right?' added Jeff, 'Maybe he can lead us home.'
'We are home. Okay?' Gally eerily spoke 'I don't wanna have to cross any more names off that wall.'
'You really think banishing us is gonna solve anything?' Teresa spoke up
'No, this isn't a banishing.' Gally calmly said, causing everyone to look around confused, 'It's an offering.'
At those words, Teresa was forcefully tied to the wooden pole, in front of the doors as the Glade erupted into confused chaos.
'You really think I'm gonna let Thomas back into the Maze after what he's done?' Gally shouted at Teresas protests. 'Look around you. Look at our Glade. This is the only way.'
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Newt give Minho the signal while Chuck emerged out of the trees, carrying poles and a bag way too big for his body.
'And when the Grievers get what they came here for,' continued Gally 'everything goes back to the way it was.'
'Are you listening to this? Why are you all just standing there?' protested Teresa again 'He's crazy. If you stay here, the Grievers are going to come back. They are going to come back and they are gonna keep coming back until you're all dead.' A few anxious Gladers look at each other, worriedly, Teresa's words affecting them.
'Shut up. Tie him up.' Gally interrupted gesturing to the 'unconscious' Thomas on the floor. The two boys next to Thomas grabbed his arms and lifted, each boy having one limb. Once they brought Thomas to his knees, he elbowed one of the boys signalling for the plan to commence.
Thomas took the boys wooden pole and knocking the boy square in the face with it. Newt came up behind the other and swung the back of a pole at him. Teresa kicking the Glader closest to her in the balls, causing him to fall to the ground in agony. Minho putting his machete on Gallys back, tempting him to do something. Ace and Frypan whacking the Builders closest to Gally with poles while I untied Teresa. The seven of us along with Chuck stood at the ivy opening daring anyone to potentially harm us.
'You're full of surprises, aren't you?' Gally stated in defeat
'You don't have to come with us, but we are leaving.' spoke Thomas
I added 'Anyone else who wants to come, now's your last chance.'
'Don't listen to them. They're trying to scare you.' persuaded Gally
'I'm not trying to scare you. You're already scared. Alright? I'm scared' Thomas admitted desperation laced in his voice 'But I'd rather risk my life out there than spending the rest of it in here. We don't belong here. This place isn't our home. We were put here. We were trapped here.' his voice starting to crack 'Atleast out there we have a choice. We can make it out of here. I know that.'
The silence that followed was eerily quiet but moving. One by one Gladers started joining our group, wanting to risk it all for a better life. Gladers came until no one was left except Gally and a few of his loyal Builders
'Gally, it's over. Just come with us.' Thomas ended, hoping to convince the boy
'Good luck against the Grievers' Gally dramatically spoke
Hope dissolved from the air as we all stopped trying to convince Gally. I took one last look across the grassy place I've called home as we turned our backs on the past and looked towards a potential future.
