Part 24 - Scared?

A/n: Hi everyone. I just want to say thank you all so much for being so patient with me while I was on my break. I love you all.

This is the one time where I was begging someone to hurt themselves. I know it sounds awful, but the Med Hut was dull and uneventful as I waited till I could return to the kitchen. Slowly but eventually, that time rolled around causing me to find an unfortunate Slopper to look after the Med Hut for me while I cooked lunch.

'Y/N!' someone called from the distance making me pivot around, concerned that someone was hurt only for the source of the voice to be Chuck.

'Geez, you scared me, Chuck.'

'Oh, sorry Y/n. I was just wondering if you needed any help in the kitchen.' He queried. I completely forgot that Frypan and Ace were in the Maze, leaving to make lunch alone.

'Yeah, sure. That would be great. Thank you, Chuck.' I said ruffling the curly hair on top of his head. Chuck and I made our way to the kitchen and started clearing the benchtop.

'What are we making for lunch.' asked the young boy

'I don't know. What do you want?'

'How about burgers?'

'Sounds good.'

Chuck and I got to working on the burgers, I started putting the meat patties onto the grill, the curly head boy started cutting the lettuce and tomatoes, while I kept an eagle eye on him, making sure he doesn't chop of a finger. It didn't take long to make the burgers, turns out Chuck is a really good listener, and I'm shocked he isn't a Cook. We finished making the burgers as Chuck rang the lunch bell signalling the start of a break. I started dishing the burgers to the Gladers, occasionally starting small talk while Chuck set aside six plates for the Gladers in the Maze.

'Can we eat lunch in here?' questioned Chuck

'Yeah sure. Why?' I asked confused

'I want people to think that we went into the Maze too when they don't see us.'

'Oh ok.' I said laughing at the young boy's response

Chuck and I ate lunch in the kitchen peacefully, until I felt someone press their lips to the crown of my head. I squealed and jumped in response.

'Wow, calm down love. It's just me.' a deep British accent chuckled from behind me

I playfully slapped Newts bicep, giving him a fake annoyed look causing him to chuckle more. Newt grabbed his plate and sat down on the other wooden chair at the table

The lunch was, let's just say interesting. It consisted of us discussing about every single topic under the sun, each topic changing within few sentences to another one. Starting with the six boys going into the Maze to if curtains would suit the serving window to close them on annoying Gladers.

We all finished our lunch as Newt had to quickly return to his job, leaving Chuck and me alone. I hopped off from the table and gathered all the dishes while I waited for the sink to fill up with hot water, adding some dishwashing liquid to the basin. The sink filled as Chuck played the radio, causing both of us to start ugly singing. Lathering the sponge in soap I scrubbed the dishes while Chuck waited until I had run the dish under water to then dry it and return it to its location. After we finished, I wished Chuck goodbye before returning back to my post at the Med Hut.

I sent the Slopper off, who was grateful for something to do as I waited for something to occur. I hastily checked on Alby, cautious of the Leader and his condition. Walking into the room, I observed Alby, peacefully sleeping, giving him an eerie aura. I scanned his body taking note of any bandages that needed to be replaced or rewrapped. After caring for Alby, I walked back into the main room and started cleaning the building, making sure it stayed as sanitary as possible. The process took a while, consisting of me wiping down the cabinets, drawers and benchtops while organizing and putting away any things I needed to. As I was about to strip the bedsheets, a knock on the door followed by the sound of the creaking door interrupted me.
