Newt's grip on my waist tightened, securing me against him, despite my efforts to wriggle out.

'Five more minutes? Please, love.' he said, nuzzling his face further into my neck, bringing me closer to him, like I would disappear if he let go.

'Come on, Newt. I have to start making breakfast and you have to start your job too.' I said, trying to reason with the clingy boy next to me.

'Please?' he pleaded as I slowly manoeuvred my way out of his hands causing him to groan in response at the loss of contact.

'We have to get ready, come on.' I reasoned as he finally gave in, getting out from under the covers. The two of us prepared for the day, sleep laced drowsily in our movements as we parted ways to start our jobs.

'Hey Frypan.' I greeted, walking into the kitchen

'Hey Y/n. We are making scrambled eggs today.' he responded, already answering my follow-up question

'Alright.' I replied, as the sleep finally slipped away from my body. We both started working, Fry scrambling the eggs while I toasted and buttered the bread. Halfway through buttering a slice, I heard someone's footsteps entering the building.

'Morning Ace.' I said, spinning around, greeting him and his tired face

'Morning.' he mumbled, slumber still deep in his voice

'Look like someone got up late.' snickered Frypan at Ace's voice and slow movements

'Shut up Fry. My legs are still sore from yesterday.' he rebutted, trying to find a good enough excuse, which he didn't end up finding

'How are they still sore? You literally run like 20 metres.' I commented, my brows furrowed in confusion

'I have weak muscles, ok?' he said, looking for a way out, relieved when I finally dropped the subject

'So are you gonna help or...' I prompted

'Nah, I prefer sitting here.' he said with a smug grin plastered across his face

'Lazy' Frypan muttered under his breath

'Hey!' Ace replied, throwing a carrot that was on the table at him in annoyance, even though the carrot missed Frypan's body by miles.

'Guessing by that throw, looks like your arm is sore too.' Frypan remarked causing both of us to snicker, while Ace rolled his eyes before flipping him off.

Once we finished making breakfast, with no help of Ace, Frypan started serving before the three of us made our way to our table outside. Taking a seat at the table, we started the usual small talk about our plans for the day until something caught our attention.

The unforgettable blare of a siren. We all exchanged confused looks as the rest of Gladers fell silent. Getting up from their wooden seats, everyone ran towards the source of the noise, Newt, Gally and a few other Gladers in the lead.

'Wait, I know that sound.' Ace commented

'It's the box. It's coming back up.' Chuck replied

'It shouldn't be.' said Minho

We all arrived at the metal lift in the floor, as Newt and Gally opened the caged door which separated us from the Box. Newt dropped down, the metal floor rattling in response.

'Newt, what do you see?' asked Winston

'Do you see it?' queried another Glader, as we all hunched over the Box, awaiting the early arrival.

Newt looked back at us, confusion filled his eyes. 'It's a girl!'

'Another one?'

'I think she's dead.' continued Newt causing as all to examine her. She was lying down, curled up with her legs to the side and her body in a straight line. She had pale skin and long dark hair but there is no doubt, she was beautiful.

'What's that in her hand?' questioned Gally breaking the few moments of silence.

Newt carefully leaned over her body, grabbing the paper from inside her hand before unfolding it.

'She's the last one, ever.' He read outloud. 'What the hell does that mean?'

The girl gasped, head brought off the floor, making us all jump back, her blue eyes scanning all of us in a dazed motion.

'Thomas' she whispered before her eyes rolled back into her head, falling back into her unconscious state. Everyone looked up at Thomas, expecting him to have answers, though it seems like he was questioning it himself.

'Alright, let's get her to the Med Hut.' Newt started trying to deflect the attention of Thomas.

Newt, Gally and Frypan all lifted her out of the box then transferred her into Jeff and Clint's arms. Ace, Frypan, Newt, Chuck, Thomas, Minho and I all followed the two other Med Jacks as they walked off, carefully not to hurt her. Once she was safely in a bed, we all surrounded her as the questions started flowing.

'What is the matter with her?' asked Newt

'Why won't she wake up.' questioned Minho

'Hey man, I got my job the same way you did.' replied Jeff.

Looking up from the girl's body, my eyes landed on Newt, watching his jaw tense as he saw Thomas staring at her.

'Well, do you recognize her?' he prompted

'No.' Thomas quickly replies

'Really? Because she seemed to recognize you.' Newt rebutted

'What about the note?'

'We'll worry about the note later.'

'I think you should worry about it now.'

'We've got enough to deal with at the moment.' Looking into Newt's eyes, I could see a brief moment of panic and stress at this newfound problem, like he wasn't already under so much pressure as it is, but it quickly vanished as he tried to act fine.

'He's right, Newt.' Jeff commented 'The Box isn't coming back up, how long do you think we can last?'

'No one said that, let's not jump to any conclusions. We'll just... we'll just wait until she wakes up and see what she knows. Someone's gotta have some answers around here.' With that Newt walked off probably to find out a solution or stop himself from screaming at someone.

We all exited the Med Hut as everyone returned to their mostly finished breakfasts, Frypan and I started washing dishes as we awaited to see what answers the girl had.
