The Eternal Promise of Friendship

KS drove the bike zooming down the Lucknow streets clad in darkness. She had changed into her usual black jeans and brown boots with a red shirt. The bike sped down the road KS gritting her teeth, tightening her hand round the handle, her heart flapping in anticipation.

Her mind trailed to the past, to her first encounter with her madam sir. She chuckled, her smile drowned with the sound of her bike, recalling how she confronted Haseena, questioning her at every turn. Their jazzbat and bhaukhal ideologies had sparked heated arguments and conflicts between them. KS accelerated, her heart urging her to speed up, yearning to see Haseena. She recollected her thoughts. 4 years had passed since they met and KS knew, deep in her heart that Haseena meant the world to her. She would express what Haseena meant to her today.

KS stopped the bike in front of the HQ just as Haseena came outside, her black hair flapping against the wind. KS turned off the ignition, got down and leaned on the bike, crossing her arms across her chest, her eyes fixed on Haseena.

Haseena smiled, the dimple in her cheeks alighting, her steps nearing KS. It was as if the world had stopped, taking a moment to appreciate the still beauty of Haseena.

"Karishma, you look beautiful today" she commented. "Any special reason?" she asked raising her eyebrows.

KS leaned forward, her eyes glowing even in the dark, inhaling the scent of Haseena.

"Haan madam sir, you" she said helping Haseena onto the bike.

KS parked the bike near Haseena's home since Haseena wanted to change. Ammi opened the door, her eyes widening in surprise seeing KS. Ks immediately knelt and took her blessings while ammi engulfed her in a hug, squeezing the very breath of her.

"Aarey Karishma, my daughter!" she exclaimed, squealing. "How are you?" she asked leading KS towards the sofa.

"I'm good ammi. How are you ammi?"

"I'm also fine beta but I'm angry with you" she said, a pout on her lips.

"Aarey!" KS exclaimed. "But why?" she asked.

"You didn't come to see me once after your daughter was born."

KS mentally cursed herself, allowing a slight smile at Ammi's childish antics.

"KS, I'll get ready and come" Haseena said excusing herself.

KS took out her phone edging near ammi, showing her photos and videos of Roshni. KS watched ammi swoon over her daughter, her eyes glazed with a happiness she had never seen.

"KS" Haseena's voice broke their attention.

KS looked away for a brief second, her heart strumming in waves. She saw Haseena in her casuals, a black jeans and red shirt with a pair of white sneakers.

"Chalo" she said as Ks got up from the sofa and the pair headed towards the door when ammi called her.

"Hasi...Pushpa Ji will be coming here today and listen don't stay out late."

KS parked the bike near a coffee shop, the aura of lights blinding the pair as they headed inside. KS let Haseena take the lead, her heart yearning in an anticipation that she couldn't describe. Haseena looked around, her eyes noting the lack of customers and the intimate decorations. The coffee shop was adorned with red and white balloons that hanged around a frame draped with a flowery banner.

KS watched Haseena, her eyes noting her every movement. She watched Haseena's eyes sparkle in delight, her mouth opening and closing. She looked like a kid jumping in an unbridled frenzy. Haseena turned to KS, her eyes glazed with joy.
