31. Haseena's Trauma

In a dimly lit room, a woman was shackled by her hands to the ceiling, her head bowed low, her eyes dropping in unconsciousness. Her face had turned blue marked by swelling and blood. She struggled to stand, the chain swaying above her, holding her firmly to the ground.

WHACK!

A sound echoed through the room, wood connecting with her abdomen. She was thrown back, her body wheezing in pain.

The man lifted her chin with the end of the stick, glaring deep into her eyes.

"Ready to confess now?" the man asked, his voice, a deep growl echoing in the stillness.

Naina stared at him, her eyes shifting their color. She had a menacing look in her eyes that the man took a step back. Her eyes thundered of an adamant defiance, she was beat but her mind held strong.

The man scowled regaining his composure, his ego irrevocably damaged with Naina's defiance. He raised the stick whacking it directly on her cheek that Naina spilled blood. He kept smacking her abdomen and her hands, each smack banging across Naina shooting jolts of pain.

Behind the screened glass, Haseena stood, her hands clenched at her side desperately gazing at the scene that unfolded before her. Her eyes flicked between concern and hate as she stood rooted to the spot, her friend beaten by the investigative officer.

Haseena controlled her tears averting her gaze from the screen and heading outside to meet the Commissioner. As she walked, her steps echoed, each step a reverberating jolt of how Naina was beaten, each reigniting a memory within her.

"Ms. Malik" a voice called out, harsh and gruff bringing Haseena to the present.

She sniffled, swallowing back her tears, straightening in her posture as she saluted the commissioner.

"Jai Hind Sir."

The commissioner nodded staring deep into her eyes. Haseena sank beneath his gaze, his eyes piercing deep into her.

"Ms. Malik" he started, his voice softening. "I can understand how difficult this must be but this is not the time to be emotional."

Haseena nodded not trusting her voice to speak.

"Yes Sir, I understand."

"Good. I hope that this case will be sorted out soon."

"Yes Sir, trust me I will see to it personally."

The commissioner left as Haseena broke down, her emotions coursing through her. The memories flashed before her eyes, etching within the silent shadows, lengthening before her very eyes. Her days at the academy with Naina, their promises to be together, their mischievous deeds. Haseena chuckled lightly recalling how she and Naina were punished after bunking classes for one week.

Haseena banged her fist on her jeep, the pain jolting her awake. She wiped her eyes, staring deep at the growing sunlight, her vision growing blue.

She had a mission, a duty. She controlled herself, her clenched nails digging into the soft flesh of her palm.

Her duty came first, she murmured to herself as she drove away, instilling in her the resolve to finish Naina's trial.

An icy wind blew rustling the leaves disturbing the stillness of the night. A lone star smiled down lingering closer to the silvery claw, their glowing light shining down.

A door slid open and a figure crept out, her breath running in circles. Her loose fitting jacket and jeans flapped with the wind, the icicles stinging across her body.
