50. A Life Together
Veyom awoke slowly, rubbing the sleep off his bleary eyes. He straightened up, positioning himself against the headboard when he felt a big lump in his chest. Still running his fingers through his eyes, he looked down and saw Roshni sleeping heavily, her limbs stretched on his chest. He laughed, patting her back as his eyes fell to KS.
KS had just returned from the bathroom, her curly locks dripping with water, cascading down her body. Wordlessly, she sat down on the low stool, picking up the hairdryer and running it through her curls, her fingers stretching effortlessly in the air.
Veyom watched her, his gaze transfixed on her beauty. He gulped, his throat bulging out as his eyes traced her perfect jawline and the curves now wrapped in a silky bathrobe. He could feel an icy sensation running through him as his subconscious mind had already started to play with her dripping locks, the water playfully splashing them.
KS saw Veyom staring at her through the reflection. She grinned and continued her work, massaging her scalp slowly, entwining her fingers with her wet locks. Once done, she placed the hairdryer aside and shook her hair from side to side, exaggerating her curves for Veyom.
"Should I continue...?" she asked suddenly, her hands resting on her curly locks.
Veyom's gaze broke momentarily, his mind blankly staring at KS. She laughed, turning to face him, taking in his stupefied expressions. She walked towards the bed, tightening her bathrobe and snuggled next to him, burying her face in his chest.
Veyom smiled, placing a kiss on her head as he wrapped a hand around her body. The cold locks drenched him in water, the effect immediately waking him up.
"Aarey Karu....your wet hair is all over me..." he said trying to disentangle himself from her locks.
She laughed, slightly lifting her head. "Accha? So it's good for you to stare at my wet hair but not for them to break your sleep?"
He laughed, the embarrassment painting his face a deep red as he casually shrugged his shoulders, leaning in towards KS.
"Karu...where are you going this early?" he asked, after a moment's silence.
She got up, staring at him, her scowl deepening with each second.
"Aarey Vi....It's Bhabhi's first breakfast with the family..."
"Yaar, I almost forgot....Amma?"
"She already left."
Veyom strolled towards the washroom while KS battled with a sleep deprived, grumpy human refusing to listen to her mother's words.

Haseena stood near the glass countertop, her face reflected in the shiny surface. Her bangles danced as she lifted her hands, checking the ingredients and taste of every dish. She was clad in a simple saree, lined with an elegant black border gifted to her by her mother-in law. As she worked, she looked out the window, the slow breeze ruffling her hair.
It had almost been a week since she'd married Anubhav. Haseena and Anubhav had received a two-week complimentary holiday from the Commissioner. They had explored Italy in their honeymoon and had only just returned, their honeymoon phase still active. Haseena chuckled as she recalled how she explored the inner parts of Lucknow with Anubhav, her eyes gazing on an emotionally soft side of him for the first time. Subconsciously, she hovered around the dishes, adding missing spices and checking the taste as if it was in-built in her.
She looked around, a sudden gush of loneliness creeping in on her. The house was empty and silent. Mother had gone to the temple and Anubhav would still be snoring in his sleep. Haseena's heart yearned for her ammi, almost wishing loudly just to feel her presence. She remembered how she was irked when her ammi called her to the kitchen early in the morning. Haseena missed the feeling of being pampered by her ammi, missing the feeling of having her chai in bed-brewed freshly with her Ammi's hands.
