44. HM and KS in danger
It was after midnight when KS knocked on Haseena's door, quietening the tumult inside Haseena. She quickly rushed and opened the door leading KS to her room before her mother woke up.
Haseena's eyes brimmed as she saw KS, her uniform untucked and ruffled, her eyes puffed and bulging out. She stepped forward, placing a comforting hand on KS's shoulder, her eyes glancing at her with concern.
"KS...what happened?" she asked.
KS looked at her, her red eyes peeking through as she managed a faint laugh. She sighed hanging her head down again, her mind racing in hesitation, her fists clenched by her side.
The photos rang inside her memory, the threat jolting her awake. She pinched herself constantly, stealing glances at Haseena, contemplating whether to confide in her or not. She sighed, the teardrops dripping to the floor, her clenched teeth grinding against the roof of the mouth. KS was lost, staring at the floor with passive, helpless eyes.
Haseena stepped forward, warmly wrapping her hands around KS as she gently caressed her back. KS resisted at first, her tough demeanor acting up yet she slowly relaxed, her shoulders sagging as she melted against Haseena's warmth. She nestled her head in her chest, her arms interlocking behind Haseena as her eyes cried out, releasing the anguish within her.
As Haseena gently caressed her, she felt the knots of tension within KS's body. Haseena barely composed herself, her tears drenching KS's uniform. She knew that KS was in trouble and that she had to help her. Haseena's DSP façade broke through, upsetting her mind as a stern expression reminded her of her vow yet Haseena composed herself. She traced back to the past when she had misunderstood KS as both a senior and a friend. She recalled the anguish and trauma that KS had to experience after her death and with her drama as Urmila. Haseena sighed, a grim resolve reigning in her eyes. She would never misunderstand her again, Haseena silently vowed to herself.
It took some time yet as KS calmed down, Haseena broke the hug, cupping KS's face gently. She wiped the tears off her cheek, her fingers tracing patterns down her cheek. KS sniffled, the storm in her settling as she glanced at Haseena, her fears overriding with the promise of friendship. Haseena said nothing, gently leading KS to the balcony where a rug lay on the floor next to two bowls of noodles. They sat next to each other, engulfed in a comfortable silence, the delicious and stringy noodles warming their hearts.
Behind them, the breeze rustled the leaves as a faint whisper blew under the torched sky. An insect buzzed, its shrill whistle breaking the eerie stillness of the night. The stars shined above them, the tiny pinpricks of light climbing down on the moon's silhouette.
As she finished her bowl, Haseena placed her hand on KS's knees, gesturing her as to what was wrong. KS stiffened, clutching the bowl tightly in her hand, the tension rising again.
"Madam Sir....I had no choice...I was helpless..." KS whispered, breaking down into tears.
Haseena placed the bowl away settling down next to KS as she held her head in her shoulders, her hands lightly tapping her, a touch of understanding and reassurance.
"Madam Sir....your lives were in danger- everyone's. That...that is why I..." she trailed off, her voice tuning into the distant night.
Haseena understand the weight of her unspoken emotions, relief flooding through her heart.
"Madam Sir...please forgive me..." she said breaking away from her as she held her ears and looked down. "I know I've committed a blunder- a grave mistake...and as always I've broken your trust..."
