Blackmailed

Skipping through the rush of morning traffic, a man walked towards the MPT, his head bowed low. He had a green shirt with a logo with black jeans and he carried a manila envelope in his hand. He kept to himself, his eyes fixed on the ground as he walked, carefully peering out from under his cap.

As he neared the station, he dragged the hem of his cap further, carefully sealing his eyes from view. He walked inside with an air of confidence, extending his hand and handing the envelopes to Jhaanvi. He kept his face carefully tucked away, glancing at her from under a dark pair of shades.

Aliya and Jhaanvi tensed next to him, the man's secrecy carrying an unspoken warning. Jhaanvi straightened herself attempting to capture the man's face yet he craftily adjusted his cap.

"A parcel for Karishma madam" he said giving Jhaanvi the envelopes.

Jhaanvi took the envelopes, her face bloated with confusion and surprise. As she turned and kept the envelopes on her table, the man had already left, leaving the officers confused.

Jhaanvi kept the packets on KS's desk ignoring the flutter of butterflies in her stomach as she carried on with her work.

The man crossed the street, stepping away from the MPT as he stared at the station. His eyes blazed in anger while his mouth curled into a thin, satisfactory smile.

"Let the games begin" he murmured as he walked away peeling away the wig under his cap, exhaling a deep breath of relief and satisfaction.

In her cabin, KS peered curiously at the envelopes before tearing them open. Instantly, she screamed, the photos falling away from her hands, hitting the table with a thud. She backed away, gulping in fear, tears blurring her view.

She quickly stood up closing all the doors and windows, her legs buckling with each step. She stood a fair distance away from the table, her heart pounding against her ribcage. She slowly walked towards the table, picking up the photos with shivering hands, glancing through each carefully.

How did this happen? She wondered peering through each photo. In her trembling hand, she held the photos of her family members, all photographed through a powerful camera. There were also photos of Haseena and Anubhav. KS threw the photos away, screaming in frustration. She punched the glass as her knuckles bled onto the table, her anger leaping out in bounds. Her family was in danger.

Her phone vibrated alerting her to the present. She looked at the screen, her vision shaking as tears flew down. She took a deep breath composing her shivering fingers as she answered the call.

"Karishma madam...." A rough voice barked out shivering her spine.

"Who is this?" she yelled.

The person laughed, a low sadistic growl.

"Kya? Do you have a death wish? She roared.

"KS, lower your voice. I have the upper hand now. Did you like my gifts?"

Her blood turned cold, her phone slipping from her grasp. She became silent, gripping the table with one hand, listening intently to the caller.

"If you want to save your family, follow my orders."

As he barked orders, KS listened, her life slipping away from her soul. Her mind turned blank unable to comprehend anything. She threw the phone away, cradling her head in her hands.

What just happened? She wondered to herself. She was caught against her duty and her love towards her family? KS recalled the demands that boiled her blood raw but did she have a choice? Her family was in danger and...she trailed off, her mind echoing with the unspoken threats.
