Beam shrugged. "My brain's about to explode from all those numbers. I don't have the brains for this Engineering stuff. I'm quitting."
Wai laughed in confusion. "What do you mean you're quitting?"
"Like I said. I'm no longer an Engineering student."
"It's only the second day, P'Beam. Don't be so ra..."
"I don't have the brains for Engineering." Beam reiterated. "My heart can't take it. I'll go crazy."
"But..."
"Say hi to Posh and the others for me, okay?" Beam said with a smile. "And please help me with the door. Just leave the key behind the door. I'll inform the landlord." And then Beam started to walk away.
"But, P'... Don't you need to say goodbye or something to the others?" Wai was puzzled.
Beam kept walking away. "No need, Wai. I'm nobody. Just one of the new students, they won't even notice my absence." And then he turned back for a moment. "Bye bye, Wai. Swing by Medicine sometime, will you?" He even winked.
Wai froze in his place. "P'Beam!! You're the Tech Moon!! You can't do this to us!!!"
But Beam was already walking away.
Wai looked at Beam's room. He almost closed the door when he realized that Beam's room wasn't entirely empty. There was something on the table.
Wai walked in.
He saw the only thing on the table. The SOTUS signature book. He opened it and made a WOW with his lip movement.
It truly had 1000 signatures. Beam had indeed made a legend by being the only new student to complete the 1000-signature task in 5 days. Wai chuckled softly looking at the names of the girls, their majors, and as an addition: phone numbers and lipstick marks.
And then he saw the last signature. From their Orientation Leader.
Wai caressed the signature.
"I love you too, N'Beam"--- Forth Jaturapoom.
Wai blinked. Was that a tear stain beside it?
With Beam's signature book in his hand, Wai ran downstairs and jumped in front of Posh who was standing beside his car.
Posh got out of his car as he saw Beam placing a box in his trunk and he could see more boxes inside Beam's car. Even his former dorm roommate, the Medicine student, was there too.
Posh pointed down the road. "Beam just left with boxes. He said he's moving," he told Wai.
"Not only that, baby," Wai said in a panic. "P'Beam also quit Engineering."
"He did?!"
"He left this." Wai showed the signature book. "I think he gave up on something."
Posh looked at Wai. He didn't understand.
Wai flipped to the last page and showed Forth's message and signature.
"That's a joke. We know that," Posh said.
Wai pointed to the tear stain beside it.
"Shit." -- Posh.
"Yeah, shit." -- Wai.
"We need to tell Irin and Prae!" -- Posh.
"Yeah! Wait! I forgot to grab my wallet." -- Wai.
"Ugh. Forget it. You got me anyway." -- Posh.

"Oh, you're dating, how cute!" Wayo delighted at seeing a couple like Posh and Wai.
"I don't like you, shut up!" Wai burst out his frustration at Wayo. More because he thought Wayo was the reason Beam was sad.
Wayo was surprised.
Phana was shocked too even to react.
Kit and Ming too.
No one had ever said they didn't like Wayo just in their first meeting. But these new students were something.
"P'Beam, Posh might seem silly, but he has good eyes." Wai said to Beam.
"Seriously, guys, Pha and Forth just became friends again after so long. I don't want Pha to misunderstand and get angry with Forth again just because of your imaginary couples." Beam said with a slightly higher tone.
The new students looked down. They lowered their gaze to the table.
Beam patted Posh's shoulder. "Let me buy you all lunch, okay? I'll treat you all to gyudon and iced lattes. And then you can make a scene elsewhere."
Not long after, the new students finished their lunch and excused themselves.
"Tell Park I'll miss him," Beam said. "Make sure you say it in front of Lam."
The new students laughed as they left the cafeteria.
And then Beam had to face Phana's judgmental gaze.
"Did Forth give you trouble?" Phana asked.
Beam shook his head. He looked back at Phana calmly.
Phana blinked. "What's this ForthBeam thing? I heard about it during the Moon Campus competition too."
Beam sighed. "Remember the 1000 signature task?" He asked.
Phana nodded.
The others listened.
"To get Forth's signature, I had to say that I love him. And then he gave me his signature with a reply that he loves me too... In my book. That's how it started. I posted it on my IG a month ago."
Phana blinked.
"That's it." Beam assured.
Phana nodded. "Of course. I believe you." He looked at Beam deeply as he continued. "By the way... We're having a drinking party with Forth and his gang this weekend, like old times."
Beam swallowed hard. He smiled. "Yeah. That'll be nice..."
"Can I join too...?" Wayo asked Phana cautiously.
Phana nodded. "Sure. All of us."
Beam picked up his water from the table and took a sip to hide his nervousness.
Phana still had his gaze locked on Beam. He tried to understand...
