Flag Day

Forth blinked. None of his orientation team members had any response upon hearing their task for FLAG DAY.

At the end of SOTUS, before the GEAR BESTOWAL ceremony, the freshmen had to be able to capture the FLAG on FLAG DAY, Friday afternoon, the next day. And tonight, the orientation team was discussing that task.

Every year there would be five tasks. Puzzles. But the orientation leader in front of his four generals said they only needed one.

"This year's freshmen are special," Forth began his explanation.

All four of his friends instantly folded their arms across their chests.
"Which ones?" Park asked coldly.

Forth looked at Park. "All of them, of course. What are you talking about?"

Lam growled dangerously.

"Let's hear your plan," Tul said.

"They understand what SOTUS is about. Seniority—they've been obedient to all tasks and punishments, never once defying us," Forth defended.

"Wai and Posh did when you gave Beam his punishment," Max retorted.

"They were employing the concept of Unity at that moment," Forth countered.

Tul blinked. Okay, his boss was being BAD.

"Order, done. Tradition, done. And with Unity not taking long to question, there's only Spirit left. And still, they've even shown that to us. So only this one task, not easy but something that signifies all five of them," Forth explained.

"Yeah? What's that?" Park asked coldly.

"Chain push-ups," Forth said.

"Pffft. That's..."

"All 1000 of them have to do it," Forth added. "And they have to hold it for 10 seconds."

"You're insane. That couldn't even happen with 20 people," Park said.

Forth smirked. "Now who's gentle?"

"The girls might not even last for 10 seconds," Tul said. "Make it two groups. Guys and girls."

"Do you agree with this?" Max looked at Tul incredulously.

Tul looked back at Max. "Chain push-ups are our trademark. Doing it with 10 people and holding it for just 10 seconds is an almost impossible task. Doing it with 1000 people for 10 seconds? That's a mission impossible at level X."

Max blinked. Tul had a point. "Should the girls do it for 5 seconds then?"

"3 seconds might be doable... I don't know about doing it with 1000 people though," Lam said.

Forth looked at his friends. "So? Two groups? Guys will do it while holding for 10 seconds, and then if they succeed, the girls will do it for 5 seconds?"

All four generals nodded.

"What if they fail? You have to prepare plan B. They need to have the FLAG so we can give them the GEAR," Park asked.

"Oh, P'Park na... Are you doubting your juniors?" Forth teased.

"Stop that, you sound like Beam, and I don't like it."

Forth grinned from ear to ear.

................................

The 700 guys were in position. The girls wandered around, finding those who might need assistance.

Prae helped Wai.

"Don't get too excited that I let you touch him, Prae. If you deliberately try to touch his thighs more than necessary, I'll hunt you down," Posh hissed.

Prae flipped him off.

Supporting the guys' thighs nearly killed the girls. They collapsed dead between the guys' bodies. They couldn't assist as the guys did it.

The weight of the guys was too tough to handle, even if it was just small guys.

"What kind of tiger are you?! You're weak!" Posh hissed at Prae.

Prae pouted.

Moreover, the guys were already too tired as they had been trying to do it without assistance since 9 in the morning until the evening.

And then Irin came up with the idea to change positions. The girls would be under the guys and hold their legs from below. The guys only needed to lift their bodies.

"Prae, I'm warning you! If you accidentally kiss my boyfriend, you're dead!" Posh warned Prae again. Beam and Wai laughed.

Prae just rolled her eyes.

"Kyaaa!!!"
"Fuck!"
"Oh my God, I'm sorry!!!"

It got messier. The guys collapsed onto the girls, and some of them got scratches and bruises here and there.

Max grinned. The kids were too funny in his eyes. Tul smiled with understanding. Park just scoffed. Lam blinked with an unreadable expression. Forth just enjoyed the evening breeze.

They tried again and again, failing to hold it for 10 seconds. They got a maximum of 7 seconds, but...

By the 10th attempt, the guys who initially could do it themselves were exhausted. The guys who received assistance were too. The girls toppled over.

So they took another break. It was just an hour before 6, deadline.

Suddenly Irin started crying. Tears flowed down her cheeks. She wasn't sobbing or making any sound.

Prae blinked. "Why are you crying?"

Irin just shook her head.

Some girls nearby were crying too.

"Why are people crying?" Prae looked at Beam. Beam just smiled sadly. Prae looked at Posh, but he had Wai hiding in the crook of his neck. Wai was crying too, so Prae teared up.

"Why are you all crying?" She asked, wiping her tears away.

Beam took a long, deep breath. The disappointment of the freshmen could be felt within his heart. His chest felt heavy.

If they couldn't complete the task, they couldn't have the FLAG.
If they couldn't have the FLAG, it meant the seniors wouldn't recognize them as their juniors.
It meant there would be no GEAR.
It meant no GEAR AWARD ceremony.

"Oh, damn, are you crying?" A second-year girl approached the group of girls next to Beam and his four friends. She was the girl who had once been driven away by three of them because she tried to give a love letter to Forth.

The three freshman girls hurriedly wiped away their tears. They glared at her.

She grinned wickedly. "Failed, huh?"
