KABIR'S POV:
Its been fifteen minutes since I've been loitering outside dad's office, shifting my weight on either of my feet continuously. Nervous would be a very underwhelming word to define the emotion I've been feeling right now. I feel like throwing up, because each and everyone who knows dad, knows that he calls people into the office only when its serious or too important. Though silent and a man of few words, dad has been a chill kind of a person. But him calling me into his office? Definitely not a chill move. The amount of nerves I am feeling at the moment might just lead me to throw up.
After a lot of encouraging gestures and unending fear of gaslighting dad by causing more delay, I knocked on the door. After hearing a faint come in, I entered into the office. Mom stayed outside because all of us knew that even though dad wouldn't have asked mom to go out, he would like it to be only me and him when we discuss whatever he wants to discuss.
As soon as I went in, I found Dad standing in front of the full length glass windows, with his back facing me. But his stiff shoulders were a sign that he was very much aware of my presence. The never ending silence was now grating on my nerves. I couldn't handle anymore suspense. He wants to praise me? Then well and good. He wants to disown me? goddamn even that is acceptable but this extended silence is something that would lead to me having a heart attack.
After what felt like an eternity, he finally spoke.
Aarav: I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but I heard the conversation between you and your mom.
I gulped but didn't utter a single word. What do you expect me to do when my greatest fear had come to be true?
Aarav: Do you have any explanation for your actions?
Honestly? No I did not. So I gulped before giving my answer.
Kabir: No. I made a mistake, too many mistakes to be honest and I accept it. I have no explanation to offer.
He slowly turned around to face me, and his face held no expressions. Anger? Nope. disappointment? naah. hopelessness? nope, naah, nada. At this point, he could as well come and hug me, or could call the cops and get me arrested for a crime I didn't even commit and I couldn't decipher which of the above was his true intention. That's how expressionless he was.
Aarav: So you're telling me that you accept what you did was totally wrong?
I gulped the lump that had formed in my throat and nodded at him.
Dad just stared at me for five minutes straight and then responded with a curt nod.
Aarav: Alright, since you've realized that what you've done is wrong, what we need to focus on is how to correct your mistake.
My eyes widened. out of the 1000 replies or reactions that I'd expected from him, this hadn't been even the last one. As far as I know, he loved Nandu like his own daughter as well. Both my parents were too fond of her. And I expected dad to give the same reaction as mom, if not more harsh.
