I sat across from Demetrius, as I had begun to look through some textbooks to try and do my part of the project. As I continued to look, I couldn't help but think about what Unknown had told me that night. The night where he reminded me to try and open myself to others, to understand who I truly am to really be able to unlock my powers to their fullest potential.
But, as I think about opening to others, it also means opening up my deepest darkest secrets. Things like that shouldn't be taken to lightly. I mean, PUZZLE is a secret organization that fights crime to maintain the peace between the two nations, and more specifically, Ostania. If word got out, who knows what WISE or other secret organizations could do to figure out what motives we have. And I can't even begin to fathom about my own dark past in the facility, so how am I supposed to open up about those dark memories that I can't even seem to get a light of, to others?
If I even did decide to open up to someone, who would I open up to? Anya is too young for everything, and I don't want to put in Loid and Yor into this huge mess. Ryan has too much going on for himself, and Garhender has been through so much as of recent times. Everything felt like a mess, like I couldn't get anything anymore. I started to fidget with my fingers, where suddenly, I fet a warm hand envelop over my hand.
"Are you alright?" he asked, gentler then usual as he looked into my eyes. He looked at me with eyes of concern, but I looked down, "If you're too tired, you do not need to continue on the assignment. I can fill out parts of it,"
I felt my heart race a bit. No, I couldn't let him do that, I'd just hate myself if I did. Plus, why am I even worrying about this right now? I need to be able to stabilize my two lives. One as a detective, and one as a normal highschool student.
"No no, I'm fine. I've just been super busy with everything going on," I sighed, and looked at him.
"Tell me about it," he looked back at his work, he had seemed to pause and ponder about something before looking back up at me, "Say, we should treat ourselves to some treats after this. What do you say?"
"Oh? Sure, only if you pay," I smirked, as I looked at him, "You know, it's only manly if you do."
"Wow, just cause I'm a man? I'm also a female advocate. So maybe you should be the one to pay, afterall, aren't females just better?" he teased, as I slouched.
"Come on man, don't use that against me, I'll have to be the one to pay then," I sighed and looked at him.
"Okay, okay, fine whatever you say," he chuckled, "I can pay. But we need to go after we're done our work."
"Wow, no way?!?" I said, and he just chuckled.
After awhile, we just continued to work in the library. I felt nice, it always felt nice with Demetrius. I didn't have to worry about my family, and keeping up an act with them. Neither did I need to worry about work, or whatever mission come up like I do back in PUZZLE with the other detectives. It wasn't like I was trying to fix something, or butt myself into a conversation with other friends. It just felt so natural. I didn't need to worry about anything when I was with him. I just felt like.. me.
LATER THAT DAY...
DEMETRIUS POV.
"You know, this shop looks great," Akari had spoken, as I snapped out of my thoughts. I couldn't help but admire her. She was really nice, and pretty.
"Yeah.. but I think that this store looks nicer," I retorded back, smirking. I loved it when we just fought over small things like this.
"You're just saying that to disagree with me, you little twerp," she remarked, and I just laughed.
