Chapter 35

Summer finished getting ready for the gala, a nude brown floor length gown with a black floral design. It was sleeveless with soft pleats on the skirt. She put on black heels and did a low bun, with a few strands hanging out. She finished her look of with earrings, rings, and bracelets then spritzed some perfume. Her makeup was bronzy with a soft smoky eye and a red lip.

"Okay, I'm ready" she giggled as she came out of the bathroom and Connor looked up from his phone. He'd been ready for at least half an hour.

"You're so beautiful, woman" he grabbed her waist and kissed her neck.

"Don't do that, we won't ever make it to that gala".

"Is that a promise?"

"Too bad you don't have time to find out. We do have to go, my fiancé is a manager. Very important".

"Mhm, I'd say you picked a good one".

"Trust me, I know I did" Summer smiled before he kissed her cheek gently and they left. They reached the hall and walked around until they found Susanna. After a few minutes, Connor walked off to find Spencer.

"I just love seeing you so happy, sweetheart" Susanna smiled.

"Yea, I really am. I still can't believe I'm engaged to this man".

"Has he told his family yet?"

"Mhm, we called them. It didn't go bad, his mom wants to be involved, which is understandable. We told her that you and dad would probably handle an engagement party if anything".

"Of course we will. Your father and I discussed beginning of next month and definitely in Boston".

"Well I asked Connor to send them your information, I don't know if he hasn't yet or if they just haven't reached out".

"I haven't received anything, but I'll be on the lookout. It'll be interesting to meet your in-laws after this long" she laughed a bit.

"Trust me, you're not missing out. They have a habit of attempting to make you feel less of for having more".

"Well your dad and I aren't easily persuaded, we'll be fine. Besides you're marrying into this family, their habit ends here".

"I am not worried about being disrespected in the slightest. He's really good about that".

"I know. Well if they reach out, we'll discuss the details of the party with them".

"Thank you" Summer said before Connor reached them. Spencer took his place at the front of the room to give a short speech, thanking his employees for all their hard work and whatnot. He finished off with a toast then went to sit with the three of them while everyone enjoyed the party.

"Do the two of you have travel plans anytime soon?" Spencer asked as he stopped a server for some appetizers.

"I was debating going to Texas when I had some time".

"To see your friend, right. Is he doing any better?"

"Slowly but surely".

"Well, I hope his recovery speeds up soon. I ask because your mother and I were thinking to go see my parents, thought you two would like to join".

"When?" Summer asked.

"Some time from now. I don't know if she mentioned it, but we wanted to have your engagement party in Boston beginning of next month. So probably a couple of months after that as long as we're caught up on work".

"She did mention it. We'll check our schedules and just make sure".

"Yea, it sounds fun, hopefully we can make it" Connor added "and did Summer tell you about my parents wanting to be involved in the party?"
