Kamryn finished her official shift around 6pm before heading home. Her brother, Lincoln, had been staying with them for a week so far and while she's enjoyed it, she has been busy with work.
"Hi" she smiled as she went inside to see Lincoln and Ben watching tv on the couch. They were getting along very naturally, it made her happy to see.
"Hey, baby. How was work?" He asked. She leaned down to kiss him and sat on the back of the couch.
"Hard shift, lost a kid in surgery today".
"Oh, I'm sorry".
"That sucks. Sorry, Kam" Lincoln said after.
"Mhm. Also, dad's been calling me nonstop".
"What for?" Ben asked.
"Probably to be an asshole, I don't know. I told him I'd call when I was home".
"Well actually, I should say that I never personally told him I was leaving".
"Come on, Link" Kamryn groaned a bit, most of her frustration was exhaustion "you know you can't give him any reason".
"I know, I know. But he and I aren't exactly buddy-buddy right now so I just never told him. But mom said she would after I left and you talked to her to make sure it was okay. I'm sorry".
"No, don't apologize, I'm not mad at you. I just hate how difficult he makes things sometimes. It's fine".
"Do you mind if I take your car tonight, I was gonna go to the gym" He asked as she stood again to prepare to head upstairs.
"Um, I'm on call tonight. So I don't really know when I'll have to go back in. Tomorrow, I'm off for the next few days and you can have it then".
"You can take my car" Ben offered.
"No babe. If something happens, I don't-".
"If something happens, it's a car, Kam. You can take it" Ben assured him as he stood with Kamryn too.
"Thanks, Ben".
"Sure. Keys are on the island" he said before they went up to their room.
Kamryn sat on the bed and waited for the call to go through while Ben leaned against the dresser to listen.
"How was your day, baby?" She asked.
"Good. Got off around 3, picked up dinner. So whenever you're ready, I can warm you up a plate".
"Well thank you" she smiled softly before her father spoke on the other line.
"Hello".
"Hi, dad".
"You're off now? Was surprised you actually made time to talk to me".
"Mhm. I'm home" she decided to ignore his sly comment "You called?"
"Yes, I'm trying to figure out why my children can't give their father the decency of respect".
"First, I didn't know that he didn't tell you. Second, I talked to Danica about it and everything's fine. He's my brother, we shouldn't have to go through eleven steps to be able to see each other" she rolled her eyes as she spoke.
"I never said eleven steps, Kamryn, but he's a kid living under my roof-".
"You're not even living under your roof, dad. Danica kicked you out because you're a liar and a hypocrite. Worry about that first before trying to ruin my relationship with my brother" she shouted a bit.
"No one's trying to ruin anything. I know your mother let you do whatever you want after I left, but he's a kid and he has rules".
"Don't bring my mom into this".
