Straight 'A' Student

Chapter 37

"Hey, Dr. Carter. What's up?" One of the techs asked as Josh joined her in the supply room.

"Are you getting off?"

"In about an hour. I thought you were leaving".

"I am, in about 15. Um, I was wondering if you could do a quick EKG on me".

"Oh, of course I can. Are you feeling okay?" She asked thoughtfully.

"Just a little discomfort recently".

"I'm sorry. Well let me run to the nurses station quickly to get you checked in so I can log it".

"Oh um, there's no way you can do it off the books?" He stopped her before she passed him.

"I'm sorry, Dr. Carter, they check my EKGs at the end of my shift. If I can't account for each one that goes on my record. Maybe I can-".

"Don't worry about it, Kenzie" he smiled at her "I won't ask you risk your job, it's nothing anyways".

"Dr. Carter".

"I'm totally fine, you know us doctors get paranoid sometimes".

"Right, have a safe trip".

"Thank you, see you soon" he waved before leaving. He finished up a couple of post op notes at the nurses station then grabbed his things and went home.

Susanna, Cora, Taylor, and Summers friends had been setting up at the venue for the last few hours. Making sure decorations were complete, catering was here, and everything was in order. They completed everything then went to get ready as well. It was a small intimate ordeal, their family and friends and some co workers.

"Baby, you almost ready?" Connor shouted from the room.

"Yes, sorry".

"Don't apologize, you're good. Just come when you get a chance, please" he said as he sat on the bed and waited. Almost ten minutes later, Summer came out of the bathroom to grab the last of her things. She wore a sage green dress with a swooped low back. She had curled her hair lightly, put it up in a 'messy' bun with some strands strategically left out and added some jewelry. Her makeup was light with a mildly bronzy evening look and a subtle brown smoky eye.

"What's up?" She stood in front of him.

"My goodness, woman, you are beautiful".

"Thank you, baby" she blushed and smiled.

"We are officially homeowners".

"What? Already?"

"Mhm. Erica just texted, said the sellers took our offer".

"Oh my god" she said excitedly as she hugged him "thank you".

"For?"

"Just being amazing, making every second of our lives together better".

"I try my best. I love you".

"I love you too. Come on" she grabbed his hand as he stood. They drove to the venue and went inside.

"Hey, mom. It's beautiful in here" Summer said as she hugged Susanna.
