Avery walked through the halls of the law office listed on the divorce papers Darren served her with at work. She knew that he knew she was staying at Summer's so that was deliberately meant to embarrass her. Not that she had anything else to say to him over the last couple of days, but she found out quickly that Darren had blocked her on everything.

"Hi, I'm Avery Clayton, here to see attorney Vaughn" she said when she reached the reception desk.

"Yes, one second" the woman smiled and made a call "right this way".
Avery followed her down a short hall and into a conference room where Darren sat with the lawyer, his angry, disgusted expression was the same as the day she told him.

"Ms. Clayton. Have a seat" Darren's attorney said and she nervously did as he asked.
"Are you waiting for representation or are you here alone?"

"Um, alone" she answered before turning to Darren "do we really need to do this. I know I fucked up and I'm sorry but we were married, we can figure this out without a lawyer".

"You're right, Avery, we were married and you didn't really give a shit, did you?"

"That's not what I meant".

"Ms. Clayton, my client and I would like to do this as quickly and bluntly as possible. You have no infidelity clause, therefore we'll have to outline each term as far as splitting assets and further communication".

"You can have the apartment, I'll find a place".

"You don't need to give me permission to take what belongs to me" Darren said angrily before his attorney spoke again.

"Yes, the apartment is in Mr. Williams' name. In addition to that, you'll have 2 weeks to remove all of your belongings before you'll officially be trespassed. Furthermore, Mr. Williams will take ownership of a 2021 Lexus ES350".

"My car?" She asked "Darren-".

"Let him finish".

"Next, the joint bank accounts owned by both parties will be split by percentage of what each parties inputs into said account. The approximate amount is 61/39, in Mr. Williams' favor. Lastly a settlement of 5K by the end of the month to supplement the amount of income gone towards Ms. Clayton during the marriage".

"This is insane, what am I supposed to do with no money and no car and barely any time to find a place to live?"

"Maybe ask your fucking boyfriend".

"I'm sorry that I hurt you".

"That doesn't change anything. Give me my shit and get out of my life, Avery".

"When do I have to sign it by?" Avery wiped her tears and looked down at the stack of papers. She knew she deserved this but it still really hurt.

"End of the week or we'll be forced to take this to a judge. Should that be the case and you lose, Ms. Clayton, the additional bills for my services outside of what Mr. Williams already paid will be added to your settlement" his attorney said. She grabbed the papers and left the room without another word.

Connor was sitting at the school in his office, finishing some grading and preparing instructions for their upcoming final project. He turned from his laptop to grab his phone as it rang with a call from Joshua.
"Hey, what's up?"

"Nothing much, just finished up for the day, heading down to my car" Josh answered "how've you been?"

"Good. I'm at the school right now, about to head out soon. Gonna stop at the house for a bit then go pick up my father in law from the airport".
