Max couldn’t believe he let his target Sabre go. He was back at his house lying down on his bed. He suddenly fell unconscious from great stress on his head. Not because of letting Sabre go, but because of something much more.
In his head, he saw something play out. A memory from his childhood, but one he didn’t remember, like it was someone else’s memory.
The memory played out like he was watching himself. At the time of the memory, Max was just a kid, known as Maxxie back then.
Little Maxxie was in a duel that just started, against…
Sabre?! I’ve never seen him before last night! Unless, is Sabre somehow altering my memories? Or the past maybe?
-I’ll take the first move.
-Okay!
Little Maxxie was smiling. Max’s head hurt, these memories were being crammed into his head and probably pushing out other ones.
Did Sabre trick my younger self somehow? He doesn’t see Sabre as a threat!
-I’ll summon one of my favourite monsters.
Sabre said kindly. Maxxie smiled.
-Sure!
-Shockwaver Soldier!
[1600/600/4]
-Since Shockwaver is the only card on the field when it was summoned, it inflicts direct damage to you.
[Maxxie: 8000 -> 6000 LP]
-Nice move!
-I’ll set one card and end my turn there.
-My turn! I draw!
If I remember correctly, before dueling became a serious thing for me, for fun I would play-
-I summon Submarine Frog!!
Frogs…
[1200/600/2]
-Next I combo him with my Aqua Jet!
[1200->2200 Atk]
Maybe that is why I enjoyed my duel with Davis a lot. It reminded me of my old water deck.
-Interesting play Maxxie!
Ugh! Every word from his, or her mouth is complete bull. What is Sabre’s objective here anyway?!
-Thanks a lot! Okay! Go Submarine! Attack that Shockwaver Soldier!
-You’ve triggered my trap card, Magic Cylinder. Not only is your attack negated but…
[Maxxie: 6000 -> 3800 LP]
-Ouch!
-Yeah, unlucky.
-I’ll admit, that was a great strategy! Oh well, your move.
-Then I draw. I’ll play my Dark Hole, destroying both Shockwaver and Submarine Frog.
-Your monster died too. Why would you…?
-Next I activate the spell known as After the Storm. This card allows me to add a Wind monster from my grave to my hand as long as there are no other cards on the field.
-Yeah, yeah I know the card.
-Shockwaver returns to my hand but I’ll summon it right away.
-Meaning its effect can activate!
[Maxxie: 3800 -> 1800 LP]
-Aw you got me again.
-Yes, and you’re wide open so I’ll attack with Shockwaver Soldier!
[Maxxie: 1800 -> 200 LP]
Little me is in a tight spot.
-Your move Maxxie.
-Thanks, draw! Here goes! Dark Hole!
-Ah so only Shockwaver is destroyed this time.
-Yep, and next I’ll use After the Storm just like you did!
-Nice.
-Not only can it fetch a Wind monster but a Water monster too! I’ll summon the Submarine Frog I just added!
[1200/600/2]
-Next I’ll use Super-Inner Strength! First I have to discard two cards meaning I have no hand left but it is worth it! It equips to Submarine Frog!
-Interesting…
Super-Inner Strength…I stopped playing that card because of the hand minus. It was a gift from my dear friend…
-What does that do Maxxie?
-Well, if I have more life points than you, it gets destroyed, otherwise, my Frog gains the difference in our life points!!
[1200->9000 Atk]
-Incredible…
-Attack directly Submarine Frog!!
Sabre lifted a card from his hand, as if to play it, but instead drops it to the ground like he/she changed his/her mind.
[Sabre: 8000 -> 0 LP]
[Maxxie Wins!]
Sabre lost to my younger self?? Is Sabre not that good? Is that it? No, there is a reason for this…
-Good game Maxxie. I had fun.
-Thanks you too! Oh wait, I didn’t catch your name.
-It doesn’t matter. I have to go now anyway. So long.
-Oh…Okay…Bye.
Maxxie notices the card left on the ground.
-Hey wait you left you…Oh, they’re gone.
Maxxie went and looked at the card. This all being imprinted on Max’s memories as it happens.
-Oh look at this.
Maxxie looked at the card.
‘Battle Raider’
[DARK/Fiend/1000/0/2]
‘When your opponent attacks directly: you can reveal this card; negate the attack and then special summon this card from your hand in attack position. If you do, inflict 1000 damage to your opponent. This damage is treated as battle damage. You can only use the effect of 'Battle Raider' once per duel.’
-Cool card! I’ll look after it until I see them again.
The dream-like memory faded away.
Sabre could have won that duel! I knew the loss wasn’t right!
Max woke up back in his room.
-I fell asleep…
He noticed blood under his nose. He wiped it away.
-Well that hurt. It was weird but now I want to find my old deck again.
Max remembered where his deck was… In the hands of Grimstien Lockhart. Their last encounter wasn’t the best.
