After two days with no luck, Jasmine decided to give up on looking for the will, Christmas had finally come, and she still had presents that she was wrapping, before they headed to the Weasleys. She was in her room, wrapping her final gift, before hearing someone knock on her bedroom door.
"Hold on," Jasmine urged, before quickly hiding her gift with the others in a box hidden in her closet. She then walked over to the door and opened it. "Yes?"
"Hey, I just wanted to ask you how the cleaning was going," Remus said.
"It's going well, with Kreacher there we only have the one room that has had years of neglect," Jasmine said.
"And... Did you find anything?" Remus asked.
"You mean about my parents?" Jasmine asked. There was a thick silence between the two.
"Yes... I figured it would be better for you to see for yourself," Remus explained.
"Did you know?" Jasmine asked.
"I did...," Remus admitted. "When we met at the house last year. I was going to tell you, but you were still healing."
"Did Sirius know?" Jasmine asked.
"He found out once he got back. He wanted to tell you, but the tournament happened and..." Remus paused, knowing that Cedric's death was still a sensitive topic for her.
"So it's true...? Sirius was my..." Jasmine said softly.
"Yes," Remus answered softly. "I'm sorry, Jasmine."
"What for?"' Jasmine asked, looking at him. "I got most of the answers I wanted. I know who my birth parents are now. I know they cared for me. I just... I don't know what happened to my mother. Regulus died in October in 1979, and I was given up to the Potters in February in 1980, before they passed away in July from Dragon Pox. She left me with them, I just want to know why."
"I know," Remus said. "I have been trying to look for answers. It's like she disappeared from existence."
"I just... I'm sure she had her reasons," Jasmine said.
"Whatever her reasons were, she did it because she loved you," Remus said.
"Have you met her?" Jasmine asked.
"Not personally, no," Remus said. "We went to school with Regulus at Hogwarts, your mother never attended Hogwarts. Regulus mentioned meeting her one day during a holiday trip. He was completely enamored with her. He planned on eloping with her at some point."
"She truly is a mystery then," Jasmine said. "Maybe Regulus wrote about her in his journal. Maybe I can learn more about her." She then looked at Remus. "Regardless of what I find out. It won't change anything. I appreciate you for raising me, and I always will. I know it had to be hard suddenly jumping into parenthood, but thank you for being here." Remus hugged Jasmine, who embraced him as well.
"It was difficult at the start. You were just learning how to walk and kept crying constantly, because I scared you, but I wouldn't trade those hard times for anything in the world," Remus said. "If you want answers about your birth parents, I will do whatever I can to help find those answers. I would never have any hard feelings about it, if that's what you're worried about. You deserve to know where you came from. I want you to be happy and get that closure."
"Thank you," Jasmine said. "I can't thank you enough. Hopefully the gift I got shows even half of my appreciation."
"You really didn't have to get me anything," Remus said, chuckling.
"You got me a ferret last year and this is the first Christmas we'll be celebrating together with a mom. Of course, I got you guys gifts. It's a big deal. And they're non-refundable, so take it, don't take it, it's gonna make you cry regardless," Jasmine said.
