~A Week Later~
Jasmine sat in Potions class, taking notes as Snape went on with his lecture. She was focused on the monotone professor, until she felt the student next to her tap her shoulder. She looked over at him, before he handed her a folded piece of paper.
“Cedric wanted me to give that to you,” he whispered.
“Oh, thanks,” Jasmine whispered, before beginning to open the note. She looked up to see if Snape was still lecturing, which he was, before she began reading the note, which said:
‘Would you like to go to the Yule Ball with me?’
Jasmine smiled at the note a little, before looking back at Cedric, who was watching for her reaction. Jasmine gave a small nod, before facing forward again. ‘I’m surprised he asked me,’ she thought to herself. ‘Maybe he does like me.’ She smiled a little and went back to taking notes, relieved that Snape didn’t catch her slacking off.
~Days later~
“This should be interesting,” Jasmine muttered, listening to Professor McGonagall explain the Yule Ball. She flinched slightly at the sudden music playing, everyone looking at Mr. Filch, the caretaker of Hogwarts. ‘Bloody hell that was loud,’ she thought.
“Now, Mr. Weasley, come up here please?” McGonagall asked. Ron tensed up and with Harry’s encouragement, stood up, walking over to McGonagall. “Okay, now give me your left hand,” she instructed, taking his hand. “And place your right hand on my waist,” she added, making Ron’s eyes widen slightly.
“Where?” Ron asked.
“On my waist,” McGonagall repeated. Ron gingerly put his hand on McGonagall’s waist, following her steps. Jasmine giggled a little, amused at how tensed up Ron was. She then looked over at the twins, who were swaying to the music, before having a brief word with Harry.
“Such goofs,” Jasmine muttered to herself.
“Okay everyone, join in,” McGonagall announced. No one moved an inch, no one on the boy’s side, no one on the girl’s side. Jasmine looked at the girls, before rolling her eyes and stepping out onto the dance floor. “Excellent, Miss Potter! Now, would any gentlemen like to join her?” There was still no response, only the boys looking at each other, before George playfully shoved Fred onto the opposite side of the dance floor. “Excellent, Mister Weasley! Now, come over to Miss Potter.” Fred walked over to Jasmine shyly, earning a few giggles from the girls. “Okay, now take her left hand, and put your right hand on her waist.”
“Come on, Freddie, I won’t bite,” Jasmine teased. Fred smiled a little and took Jasmine’s hand, resting his hand on her waist. Jasmine rested her free hand on his shoulder, as she looked at McGonagall for more instruction.
“Good, now follow the steps,” McGonagall instructed. Jasmine began taking the lead, knowing that Fred was still a little nervous. Fred began following Jasmine’s lead, looking down at their feet. He was trying to make sure he didn't step on her feet, which he awkwardly did a few times, trying to play it off as him goofing around. As the two continued to dance and fumble awkwardly to the music, Neville Longbottom gained the confidence to stand up and give it a try.
~The Next Day~
Jasmine headed to study hall, and heard someone calling her. She turned around to see Fred jogging up to her, George trailing behind.
“Oh, hey, Fred. What’s up?” Jasmine asked. Fred stopped in front of Jasmine, leaning against the wall to catch his breath.
“Well, with the day of the ball is getting closer. I was wondering if you maybe wanted to go with me,” Fred said, pushing his long red hair out of his face.
“Oh...sorry Fred. Someone asked me already, and I said yes,” Jasmine said. Fred nodded, a little hurt from being rejected, but understood.
“Oh, okay,” Fred said.
“I’ll save you a dance though. Good luck with finding a date. I hear Angelina Johnson from the quidditch team is still looking for someone,” Jasmine said, heading into study hall.
“Alright.” Fred said, before looking at George. “Somebody asked her already. Who do you think it was?” George gave a shrug, before heading into study hall with Fred.
~Later that day~
“Hermione help meeeee,” Jasmine said, running over to Hermione, who was headed to the library.
“What? What’s happened?” Hermione asked, quite startled.
“Remus packed me a bunch of dresses for this ball,” Jasmine said. “Could you help me pick out a dress?” Hermione sighed in relief, glad that it wasn’t an actual emergency.
“Of course I will, but why didn’t you ask the twins?” Hermione asked.
“I need a girl’s opinion, and things have been awkward since I rejected Fred,” Jasmine muttered.
“Wait, when did that happen?” Hermione asked, looking at her as if she had missed something.
“Just outside of study hall earlier today. Cedric asked me days before so I said yes,” Jasmine said.
“You’re going with Cedric Diggory?!” Hermione yelled in surprise, before Jasmine shushed her quickly, looking around to make sure if anyone heard.
“Yes, I’m going with Cedric, but I won’t if I can’t find the right dress,” Jasmine said.
“Okay, I will meet you in the common room after I finish studying. I’m sure we can figure something out,” Hermione said.
“Thank you, Hermione!” Jasmine said happily, hugging her. “You are a lifesaver! I’ll see you then,” she said, walking away.
