(Here we go! Only a few chapters left until the Great Tree! But for now, let's hop back into Varian and Rapunzel's Terrible, Awful, No Good, Very Bad Day :3)
(FYI: this chapter starts in Rapunzel's perspective. You'll know when it switches to Varian's (and eventually back to Rapunzel's). Also, Varian helping talk Stalyan into going back for Rapunzel (and a bit of their conversation) is inspired by the one and only ElizabethShelby  (I'm sorry your ideas were so good and I was STUMPED so there's a few lines that are eerily similar - hope you don't mind too much 😅))

(Chapter warnings: kidnapping. As expected, given the end of last chapter. Also a fictional curse I stole from another fic. I CANNOT remember which one for the life of me, but I think it was on AO3.)

"Varian!" Rapunzel gasped as the young alchemist slumped over. She turned to Stalyan, eyes narrowing. "You're going to free Eugene and try to win him back," Rapunzel realized, turning as Stalyan walked past her. "Aren't you?"

"A thief belongs with a thief. I told you you were a bad judge of character, Princess," Stalyan said, opening the tent flap with her arm. Then, after pausing for a moment, she bent down and scooped up Varian in her arms. "This little guy might be helpful, though." She gave a short laugh. "His alchemy stuff really works." With that, Stalyan stepped out of the tent. Rapunzel could only watch as she took Varian's limp body and the gem that could save her love with her.

The tent flap fluttered shut, as if dropping a curtain on the final act of Rapunzel's play.

Varian had barely regained consciousness before the pain in his back hit him like a speeding carriage. His eyes fluttered open as he gave a small groan, attempting to sit up. Only...

He couldn't.

His still-drowsy eyes swept from side to side, quickly taking in his situation. He was laying on his back, partially propped up against a tree, purplish-pink goo underneath his torso and arms.

Sunburn it, he mentally cursed. Stalyan must've went through my stuff and found the raccoon trap. He attempted to sit up, but the goo didn't give in the slightest.

"Ah, so Blueberry Boy awakes," came Stalyan's voice from nearby. Varian's eyes snapped up, seeing Stalyan sitting on a nearby log, admiring the Eye of Pincosta. His eyes narrowed as his back continued to ache from its recent contact with a wall.

"Why did you take me with you?" Varian managed to get out, albeit sluggishly. He frowned. "Or more accurately, kidnap me."

"I wouldn't call this kidnapping, more..." Stalyan struggled to find a word. "Nevermind, it's totally kidnapping." She stood and folded her arms. "And frankly, you and that Princess work too well together. You'd probably figure out a way to escape." She gave a short laugh. "But you can't help her if you're stuck out here."
