Chapter 10
Sallymae forgot to notice that somehow she was able to breathe underwater, because she discovered who the arm belonged to. It belonged to Quinton Q. Hollingsworth, her old flame, who had returned from sitting upon a lonely asteroid, contemplating upon the similarities between atomic and galactic structures.
“Oh Quinton!” she cried, “How nice to see you!”
“Oh Quinton, how nice to see you!” he mimicked sarcastically as he pulled her into an underwater cave. Then Sallymae saw that Quinton had a chain around his leg that led further into the cave.
“Where are you taking me, Quinton?” asked Sallymae, as he pulled her deeper and deeper into the darkness.
He said nothing to this, but kept pulling her along.
Soon they came upon a huge crab. Quinton walked up to it and said, “Here is the payment you demand for my freedom.” With that, he pushed Sallymae toward the crab, who quickly grabbed onto her with its claws. It then released Quinton from his chains. Quinton swam away without looking back.
“Oh, what are you going to do with me?” Sallymae asked the crab.
The crab looked at her and said, “What do you think I’m going to do with you?”
Sallymae immediately thought of all the terrible things that the crab could do to her, and cringed. The crab laughed and said, “I’m going to ask you to teach me how to dance.”
This confused Sallymae so much that she came out of her faint, and was once again in the underground room where she had recited poetry and everyone had turned into steam, and then floated out of the hole above the table which Sallymae had fallen down.
She looked around and said, “This isn’t really a bad place, come to think of it. I’ll just settle in here and live a quiet and peaceful life.”
