Chapter 5

She was floating down a river on a raft made of corn cobs tied together. Along the shore were thousands of furry beings who were dancing in spirals. Those that were at the outer ends of the spirals were flipped into the air. They then landed in the center of another spiral and began the cycle again.

Sallymae watched the furry being as she floated down the river. At first it seemed that each spiral of furry beings looked like the one before it, but as she continued on, the beings looked uglier and uglier. Upstream, they hadn’t even noticed Sallymae, but now they would occasionally glance at her and scowl. Sallymae pretended that she didn’t notice them, but soon more than just glancing, they were staring at her and sneering.

She looked ahead and saw that a group of them were blocking the river and laughing evilly as she floated closer and closer to them. Just when she was bout to reach them, there was an ear-piercing quacking sound from the sky. The ugly furry beings all ran away, and Sallymae looked up to see what had made the sound. All she saw was a hazy light behind the clouds, which was surly the moon. She began to feel tired, and so curled up on the raft and fell asleep...
